Your Opportunity

One Temporary Full Time Position.

March 2026 – October

Join Capital Power as a Co-op student and gain hands-on experience in industrial automation, cybersecurity, and data analytics.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Assist with maintenance of industrial networks and security appliances across the fleet. This includes greenfield developments, brownfield acquisitions, and existing system modifications utilizing industry best practices.
  • Support engineering projects and help apply system hardening practices to industrial control systems to reduce vulnerabilities.
  • Provide day-to-day assistance in monitoring and maintaining control systems across the fleet.
  • Support implementation of security configurations, patch management, and compliance with NERC/ISO CIP standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, electrical and control system drawings based on engineering changes and project requirements.
  • Assist in preparing reports and technical documentation for internal and external engineering users.
  • Take initiative to learn new tools and technologies related to industrial automation, cybersecurity, and data analytics.

What you will bring to the role:    

Education:

  • Completion of at least one year in a post-secondary Engineering degree program and still enrolled in the program.

Experience:

  • Analytical skills to identify potential problems related to position responsibilities.

  • Ability to work effectively with others to resolve issues as part of a team.

  • Planning and time management capabilities, along with independent problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting.
  • Understanding of networking and virtual infrastructure is an asset.
  • Fundamentals of control system architecture, networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN), and OT protocols (Modbus, OPC, DNP3).
  • Basic knowledge of system hardening practices (firewall configuration, antivirus, patch management).
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures for critical OT servers.
  • Exposure to Windows Server administration (Active Directory, Group Policy, user permissions).

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position.

Additional Details:

Hours of Work: 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week

Union: CSU52 (ENCO)

Wage: $34.96
