About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Supervising Technical Producer at Global Regina. Reporting to the Regional Manager, Broadcast Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of production in a control room setting. We are seeking a team builder and natural leader. With an excellent knowledge of broadcasting and a hands-on technical background.  An individual who excels under pressure and values teamwork.

The successful candidate will primarily work Monday to Friday, but hours may include mornings, evenings and weekends, when necessary.

You will contribute by:

  • Supervise production staff and daily workflow of MMC Central control room
  • Build strong working relationships with team members across Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg newsrooms
  • Operate and maintain working knowledge of production equipment.
  • Coordinate production personnel work schedules including vacation and sick calls
  • Ability to calmly and clearly give directions to crew while under pressure.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems in Control Room and with operators on location.
  • Train or ensure staff are properly trained for their specific roles.
  • Provide real-time, effective, constructive feedback on worker performance.
  • Prioritize, delegate, and manage many projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Lead teams through production innovation changes.
  • Organize and help deliver major broadcasts (Ie: Breaking news, elections, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the building on best practices across teams.
  • Address employee concerns and complaints in a professional manner, identifying and resolving workplace problems. Escalating appropriately when necessary.
  • Working knowledge of local and national current events
  • Backfill production roles as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and experience you will bring: 

  • A post-secondary education in broadcasting or a related field.
  • 5+ years' experience working in a broadcast control room
  • Established technical operator with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work and show confidence in high pressure situations.
  • Knowledge on multiple software and hardware systems – including Mosart, Open Media, Xpression, Edius/Stratus would be considered an asset
  • Must have strong broadcast technical knowledge
  • A strong team player with great communication skills who can work with a variety of personalities.
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
  • Be able to work a variety of shifts that include early mornings and weekends.
  • Desire to always push forward and try new things
  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily deadlines
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clear driving record
