The position

The Director of Inventory Planning is a senior operational leader responsible for setting and executing Rocky's inventory strategy. This new role focuses on long-term planning and optimization of both production and procurement plans to meet our customers' needs, ensuring clear controls in inventory management. This role is accountable for creating and setting department KPIs and will partner closely with Manufacturing, Sales, and Finance to ensure cross-functional alignment. With strong manufacturing and leadership skills to coach and develop the team, this leader is a key role in our growth strategy to build and meet the business growth targets. 
This position works Monday through Friday from our Workshop in Canmore, Alberta. 

What you'll be doing
Procurement

  • Oversee and coach the Procurement Manager and Procurement Specialist on a day-to-day basis
  • Lead sourcing, selection, and performance management of vendors for raw material ingredients, packaging, labels, etc.
  • Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiation, and pricing strategies to drive sustainable cost savings and margin improvements
  • Own the end-to-end procurement strategy, developing long term plans to ensure all necessary materials are in-house to meet the demand and production plans
  • Ensure planning is in alignment with business demands, production schedules, demand planning, and sales forecasts
  • Ensure procurement decisions align with operational capacity, inventory strategy, and sales
  • Develop and execute strategies that optimize inventory levels and purchasing efficiency 
  • Design resilient supply chain systems with a focus on risk mitigation, business continuity, growth and sustainability
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure inventory and process effectiveness, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement 
Inventory and Production Planning
  • Partner with Finance to set the yearly inventory targets that are aligned with our sales and cash targets
  • Oversee and coach the Planning Specialist to ensure the day-to-day production schedule and planning process meets our sales forecast needs
  • Lead and monitor the progress of production vs demand planning through regular communication with the production and sales forecasting departments, and take proactive actions to ensure required quantities are met and/or rescheduled as appropriate
  • Maintain strong visibility to our current and expected inventory levels; provide regular visibility on inventory by SKU vs targeted weeks on hand and make decisions with that information
  • Set the standards and procedures for inventory counting, reconciliation, and auditing across all inventory categories
  • Ensure physical inventory aligns with our systematic inventory through strong governance and controls
  • Provide accurate inventory insights and enable informed decision making
  • Build scalable inventory systems and processes to support growth

Does this sound like you?

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or procurement
  • Strong understanding of raw materials, packaging, and material expiry
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in managing teams, operations, and processes
  • Proven people leader with a strong track record of coaching, developing, and inspiring teams to perform at their best
  • Skilled in problem solving and conflict management, with a proven ability to address challenges and implement effective solutions that drive collaboration and operational success
  • Proficiency in manufacturing and supply chain management software and tools, such as ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite preferred), inventory management software, and demand planning tools
