Basic Salary: £23,878.59
Contract: Full-time
Core Hours: 35 hours per week

Your Role as a School Caretaker

We are on the lookout for a passionate and dedicated School Caretaker to join our team! In this vital role, you will ensure the maintenance, security, and cleanliness of our school premises, representing us with contractors and suppliers to keep our environment safe and welcoming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain clean, safe, and secure school premises, including buildings and grounds.
  • Perform cleaning, handyperson activities, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
  • Supervise school cleaning staff to ensure high standards are met.
  • Promote health and safety throughout the school.
  • Manage porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
  • Report any maintenance issues to the Head Teacher.
  • Conduct small repairs and DIY projects as needed.
  • Coordinate larger repairs and obtain quotes from contractors.
  • Carry out daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking.
  • Respond to emergency cleaning needs, such as gritting and spillages.
  • Organize annual deep cleans of frequently used areas.
  • Maintain cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels.
  • Act as the main key holder, ensuring the security of the premises.
  • Lock and unlock the school as required, including out-of-hours.
  • Conduct end-of-day checks to secure the premises.
  • Set security alarm systems and respond to any breaches.
  • Regularly check CCTV, alarm systems, and fire safety appliances.
  • Advise the Head Teacher on security and safety matters.
What We're Looking For
  • Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools.
  • Previous caretaking experience in a school environment.
  • Experience in building maintenance and security systems.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Basic DIY skills and good interpersonal abilities.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with SEMH children.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
