Who You Will Work With:  

The vacant AppOps, Senior Specialist role will report to the Leader, Infrastructure Engineering. The AppOps, Senior Specialist will be a hands-on application SME with expertise in Application Support and Site Reliability Engineering. You will diagnose, resolve, and mitigate application problems and ensure optimal performance and availability of our critical payment systems. You will focus on building and driving application automations, proactive observability, detection, and self-healing capabilities. You will respond to and action critical service alerts and mitigate against any service and client impact.

You will actively maintain Production application stability and ensure adherence with Prominent Payment system (PPS) standards for our national payment systems.

This is a fast-paced role which requires strong technical and operational skills, end-end application and systems insights, and experience working in cloud/hybrid/on-prem environments. The job role requires to work in rotating shifts to provide 24x7 Support coverage.
 

What You Will Do:  

  • Ensuring the high availability of complex, multi-datacenter environments acting as a bridge between the infrastructure and the application, managing everything from RHEL/OpenShift layers and EDB Postgres/CockroachDB clusters to the API ingress and messaging backbones

  • Full-Stack Troubleshooting applications by leveraging the APM tools like Dynatrace

  • Understanding large-scale Java applications, database architectures, application monitoring and fault management.

  • Having an SRE mindset toward ensuring Application Availability.

  • Application support and maintenance of large-scale Java/JEE applications and microservices

  • Identifying the application monitoring needs or performance issues and instrumenting them appropriately in Dynatrace and Splunk.

  • Designing and instrumenting Dynatrace monitoring and tuning (health rules, alerts) for various applications.

  • Apply a deep understanding of networking concepts and hardware—integrated with SolarWinds—to ensure stable cross-datacenter connectivity and traffic routing.

  • Investigate and find root causes through logs on Databases or Linux servers

  • Be able to write queries and pull reports on Databases to identify trends and bottlenecks

  • Identifying areas of automation for building self-remediation needs.

  • Creating or updating performance analysis reports & dashboards, Knowledge base.

  • Propose and implement solutions to improve system availability. Identify opportunities for self-remediation and automate repetitive manual tasks.

  • API & Microservices technologies and containers

  • Maintain high-quality performance analysis reports, dashboards, and technical documentation to expedite incident resolution (MTTR).

What You Bring: 

  • University Degree in Computer Science Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity. 

  • Experienced in Core Java Object Oriented programming and understand basic Enterprise Integration Patterns.

  • 3+ years of software development (Java)/ maintenance experience, preferably with experience in payment systems or the banking domain and can test and devise solutions.

  • Experience in Application Support, focusing on improving application reliability by enhancing application monitoring, designing, and instrumenting dashboards and tuning alerts, preferably with Dynatrace or similar observability toolsets

  • Willingness to work on shifts and support the application on a 24*7 basis.

  • Experience in network troubleshooting and Infrastructure tuning.

  • Strong SRE Background and focus on improving the reliability and stability of the infrastructure.

  • You are a strong team player and can communicate across different teams efficiently - verbal and written (technical documentation).

  • Basic knowledge CI/CD platform for deployment.

  • You have debugging expertise in the Java tool stack and good knowledge of APIs.

  • Excellent understanding of ITIL service management processes.

  • Experience in supporting high-throughput, low-latency systems.

  • You have experience in maintaining high-performance, service-oriented architectures.

  • Have a solid understanding of different open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache and data transformation (jaxb2, JSON, XML).

  • Participated in the overall delivery of software components as part of an agile development process.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively and professionally.

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes when handling difficult situations & customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities & follow through on projects to completion.

  • Stay organized and deal with information from different sources simultaneously.

  • Open to new ideas and change initiatives, with an ability to modify the current approach in the face of new demands.

What We're Offering: 

The hiring range for this position is $105,000 - $135,000, and you will also be eligible for our short-term incentive plan. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, but Interac's commitment goes beyond compensation.
