Who You Will Work With:

The vacant Platform Engineering, Senior Specialist role will report to the Leader, Infrastructure Engineering. The Platform Engineering, Senior Specialist will support the Platform layer that fronts API's, enforces edge controls, moves messages and aggregates telemetry for real time operations. They will be doing hands-on work and will have exposure to multiple infrastructure domains including compute, networking, storage, backup, and database platforms. They will work with internal and third-party vendors/service providers, ensuring seamless integration, effective service delivery, and alignment with strategic objectives.

What You Will Do:

OpenShift Platform Build & Operations (On Prem)

  • Build, maintain, and operate a production OpenShift platform on prem, including cluster/node lifecycle, operators, and platform stability responsibilities.

  • Execute measured, low risk platform configuration changes in production (e.g., routing/ingress/TLS policy changes) with controlled rollouts.

  • Manage platform configuration changes and upgrades using operator driven, controlled rollouts aligned with change management practices.

  • Operate OpenShift Service Mesh (Istio based) to enable secure, observable service to service communication.

  • Manage mesh control plane lifecycle via Operators and CRDs.

  • Support traffic management (routing, canary releases, rate limiting), zero trust security (mTLS, workload identity), and observability (metrics, logs, tracing).

  • Understand and operate sidecar and ambient (sidecar less) modes as appropriate to platform requirements.

  • Understanding of cloud (AWS in particular) and SaaS platform services such as SES and IDAM/CIAM.

  • OS & Host Foundations Supporting Container Platforms

  • Senior capability administering RHEL (Windows Server, nice to have) underlying supporting components and adjacent services (patching, stability, software currency).

  • Support minor/major upgrades, extensions to databases: CockroachDB , EDB Postgres/PostgreSQL

  • Facilitate patching activities and forward/rollback testing in lower environments to reduce production risk.

Docker Containerization & Image Lifecycle

  • Build and troubleshoot Docker images used for OpenShift workloads, including authoring and maintaining Dockerfiles, multi‑stage builds (where required), and image reproducibility.

  • Strong competency managing base images and "golden image" practices (selecting approved bases and ensuring they are updated with security fixes

  • Enforce and troubleshoot non‑root container execution expectations (e.g., Dockerfile USER and runtime permissions constraints) consistent with enterprise cluster deployment standards.

  • Manage and validate image runtime behavior (filesystem permissions, read‑only constraints where feasible, and container start-up failures linked to image construction).

  • Container Registry, Artifact, and Supply‑Chain Management

  • Operate and integrate artifact and container image repositories that support OpenShift deployments (pull/push flows, promotion patterns, availability during releases).

  • Support and troubleshoot binary/image scanning workflows and address findings that block deployments.

CI/CD & Automation for Container Delivery into OpenShift

  • Operate CI/CD pipelines that build Docker images, publish artifacts, and support deployment workflows (pipeline troubleshooting that impacts releases and platform stability).

  • Automation-first capability using Ansible, Bash, and Python to reduce manual toil in container build/release and operational tasks.

  • Maintain environment synchronization across deployments (application versions, configuration, and certificates) so container releases are consistent across lower/prod environments.

  • Mapped technologies: GitHub(GitActions), Jenkins, SonarQube, JFrog Artifactory, JFrog Xray

  • Ingress / Routing / TLS & Certificate + Key Management (Platform Edge Controls)

  • Operate API ingress and routing tiers and apply safe config changes (including TLS policies) with measured rollouts.

  • Strong knowledge of certificate and key management, including troubleshooting cert issues impacting routing, mTLS/TLS handshakes, and platform/application deployments.

  • Manage certificate and key lifecycles affecting platform and service connectivity.

  • Coordinate with network and security teams to troubleshoot north‑south and east‑west traffic issues

Observability, Alerts, and Operational Signal Quality

  • Maintain platform dashboards and alerts, including tuning thresholds to minimize false positives while maintaining detection fidelity.

  • Perform ongoing monitoring and capacity management for infrastructure and software platforms supporting OpenShift service levels.

  • Reliability, Incident Response & Change Management (Senior Ops Competence)

  • Partner on incident bridges to quickly differentiate platform vs application faults and restore service.

  • Meet high availability expectations aligned to defined SLA/SLO for critical systems.

  • Working knowledge of ITIL-aligned change management: maintenance window planning and rollback engineering.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/IT and/or 8+ years of equivalent IT working experience.

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • 5+ years in platform engineering/SRE/DevOps/DBA roles with strong hands-on experience on Red Hat OpenShift/Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD tools and automation scripting.

  • Automation-first mindset: Ansible, Bash, and Python; GitOps workflows; IaC familiarity (Terraform helpful).

  • Change management (ITIL), maintenance window planning, and rollback engineering.

  • Experience with observability (Solarwinds, Dynatrace), log platforms, and alerting.
