Job Title: Nuclear Engineering Manager – Submarines

Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Onsite

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Nuclear Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the Test & Commissioning program. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and coordinate the complex delivery of the program within your section.
  • Conduct planning and management activities to ensure products are safe, compliant, and meet quality standards.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities align with the Operational Framework and Test & Commissioning policies.
  • Participate in the Reactor Test Group, preparing and reviewing essential documents.
  • Act as the Chairman of the Nuclear Authorisation & Test Evaluation Committee when required.
  • Assess and develop team members to maximize their contributions and meet contract requirements.
  • Optimize performance and resource use within the Test & Commissioning team.
  • Review processes to enhance efficiency and establish a best-in-class capability.
Your Skills and Experiences:

We’re looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Ability to hold Duly Authorised Persons appointment for nuclear hold-points.
  • Experience in Nuclear/Reactor Systems and/or Propulsion Systems Testing & Commissioning (submarine experience preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage the Commissioning Team to meet testing plans and deliverables.
  • Strong people management skills with a knack for providing clear direction.
  • Experience in managing delivery to plan and schedule in a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of Nuclear Site Authorisation/Conditions and/or COMAH.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex engineering processes effectively.
  • Ability to influence and communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of technical issues across various engineering and commissioning disciplines.
  • Typically an Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartership and a member of the relevant institute.
  • ILM Level 2/3 or CMI Level 3/5.
  • MBA/MSc/Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

The Nuclear (Reactor) Commissioning Team:

As the Nuclear Reactor Commissioning Manager, you will oversee all aspects of our Test and Commissioning team. You will manage individual boat contracts and interface with both internal and external stakeholders. This role requires an experienced leader with exceptional interpersonal skills. Tailored relocation support is available for eligible candidates across all Submarine roles.
