Verifies patient identity and reviews patient's medicalrecord for appropriateness of exam or procedure.
Interviews patient to obtain, verify or update medicalhistory and assesses risk factors such as medications, pregnancyand/or psychological indicators.
Explainsprocedure to patient, including side effects of pharmaceuticalsadministered, risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up.
Sets up equipment and acquires appropriateimages as per script.
Reviews images, makesinitial observations, documents exceptions from establishedprotocols and communicates data to radiologist.
Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies asappropriate.
Provides physician-prescribedpost care instructions to patients.
Participates in process improvement activities within radiologypractice including but not limited to quality of care, patientflow, reject-repeat analysis and patient satisfaction.
Provides imaging education to residents, studenttechnologists and new employees.
Able totake call/standby as required by the department. Minimum Qualifications 1. Registered by the American Registry ofRadiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R). 2.Required to have or successfully complete American HeartAssociation (AHA) Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BLS)training by end of orientation period. Skills Required 1. Analytical andclinical skills necessary to determine the most age appropriatemethod of providing requested radiographs specific to patient'sphysical ability and/or limitations. 2. Interpersonal andcommunication skills necessary to deal effectively with andinstruct patients who may be under physical/emotional stress;ability to comprehend and follow physicians verbal and writtenrequest and prescriptions; ability to work effectively in aculturally diverse atmosphere with a variety of hospital personneland/or patients. 3. Technical knowledge necessary tooperate equipment including but not limited to all specializedequipment and computers. 4. Ability to work productivelyand effectively within a complex environment, handlemultiple/changing priorities. 5. Physical stamina forfrequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.Physical ability to stand, bend, push, pull, reach and lift inorder to provide patient care. 6. Manual dexterity andvisual acuity to operate and utilize all types of x-ray equipmentand supplies in order to produce radiographs of acceptablediagnostic quality.
