Position Summary
The Design Supervisor leads the drafting function supporting all PCR capital and maintenance projects. This role manages drafting resources, standards, quality, and schedule to deliver accurate, constructible drawings and models (2D/3D) across piping, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines. The supervisor ensures compliance with company/owner standards, industry codes, document control practices, and supports project execution from concept through IFC/As-Builts.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting Leadership & Resource Management Lead and supervise drafting teams (internal and contract), including workload planning, prioritization, and assignment of work packages. Develop and maintain staffing plans aligned to project schedules and deliverable forecasts. Coach and mentor drafters/designers; support skill development (CAD, modeling, standards, constructability). Coordinate with discipline leads, project managers, construction, and operations to align deliverables and resolve conflicts. Deliverable Production & Quality
Oversee production of engineering drawings/models, including (as applicable): PFDs, P&IDs, cause & effect, loop drawings, instrument data sheets support Piping GA drawings, isometrics, pipe supports, stress interface details Plot plans, equipment layouts, tie-in packages, demolition plans Structural steel, foundations, civil site plans, grading/drainage Electrical one-lines, layouts, cable tray/routing, grounding, lighting As-built updates and redline incorporation Ensure drawings meet project requirements, applicable codes/standards, and are coordinated across disciplines. Implement and enforce checking/QA processes (self-check, peer check, lead check) and drawing quality metrics. CAD/Modeling Standards & Tools
Own drafting procedures, templates, symbol libraries, layering/line styles, title blocks, and drawing numbering conventions. Maintain model/drawing standards for 2D and 3D tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, SmartPlant, Navisworks-based on company environment). Establish and manage model governance: clash reviews, constructability reviews, and model/drawing coordination. Support implementation/improvement of CAD standards, automation, and best practices to improve productivity and reduce rework. Document Control & Change Management
Ensure deliverables follow revision control, transmittal processes, and document management system requirements. Maintain alignment with project change processes (MOC/PSM where applicable): revision justification, change logs, and traceability. Coordinate vendor drawing integration and review cycles; ensure vendor data is incorporated correctly. Schedule & Interface Management
Track drafting progress against project plans; provide weekly status, look-ahead schedules, and risk flags. Identify bottlenecks and implement recovery plans (resource shifts, overtime plans, priority resets). Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and site walkdowns for tie-ins. Safety & Compliance
Promote and enforce safe work practices and required training, including site-specific requirements. Ensure drafting deliverables support safe design and compliance expectations (e.g., clear labeling, hazardous area classifications as directed, safe access/egress representation where applicable). Required Qualifications
Education:
Technical diploma/associate degree in Drafting/Design, Engineering Technology, or related field (Bachelor's preferred but not required with strong experience). Experience:
7+ years drafting/design experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, midstream, or related industrial projects; 2+ years in a lead/supervisory role. Demonstrated experience delivering IFC packages and supporting construction with RFIs/field changes/as-builts. Strong working knowledge of industry drafting practices and common deliverables for industrial facilities. Why Ergon?
