Paralegal for mid size law firm client, North York.

Job Type: Full-time Permanent.
Existing Vacancy: Yes.
Target Compensation: From $75,000 to $85,000 per annum, according to experience.
Regular Work Hours: FULL TIME WORK HOURS – 7.0 work hours per day, not including 1 hour lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (35 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid with 2 days per week remote and 3 days onsite at Client's North York office, free parking provided. Work to be completed 100% onsite during probationary period. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.
Responsibilities Summary:
Provide legal and recovery support in collections and enforcement proceedings, including drafting court materials, managing files, and assisting lawyers with Superior Court recovery actions.
Draft and issue demand letters, notices, and related correspondence.
Draft and file Superior Court pleadings, motions, and court documents for recovery-related proceedings.
Assist lawyers with enforcement, garnishments, examinations in aid of execution, and related recovery steps in Superior Court actions.
Arrange for service of pleadings and materials including statements of claim, motions, default judgment materials, garnishment materials, and writs of seizure and sale.
Maintain organized, up-to-date files and ensure deadlines are met.
Manage a high volume of work independently while collaborating with the legal team.
Additional legal responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Diploma in a recognized Paralegal or Ontario Law Clerk program.
Professional Credentials: Paralegal license or ILCO certification preferred.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 4-5+ years of progressive, related work experience in drafting, filing, and arranging for service of Superior Court pleadings in collections and recovery actions.
Preferred Sector Experience: Law firm experience in collections, recovery, and/or commercial litigation.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
Knowledge of and experience with the court's filing systems including Case Lines and the JSO portal.
Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong business writing skills and professional correspondence.
Task-Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:
In-depth knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and court practices, including demonstrated experience with Superior Court pleadings.
Strong understanding of recovery and collections procedures and relevant legislation.
Proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple files simultaneously.
Experience coordinating service of court materials and tracking limitation and procedural deadlines.
Strong analytical skills in reviewing pleadings and supporting materials for procedural accuracy and compliance.
Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage a high volume of work independently while working collaboratively with the team.
Proven ability to respond to sensitive and confidential matters with tact, discretion, and excellent judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
Demonstrated ability to work well independently, collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
Ability to promptly provide minimum of 2 reasonably recent, qualified employment references upon request who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client.
Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities prior to assignment start.
Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
Additional satisfactory Background Checks and Technical Skills Evaluations as required.
