Campus Security Services serves a diverse client base including students, employees and visitors. The department's 46 employees work together as a team to ensure a high standard of customer service delivery, as well as the effective, efficient and safe adherence to university policies. Together, we support UVic's vision to be a university of choice for outstanding students, faculty, and staff from Canada and around the world and to enhance UVic's reputation among the best universities in Canada and the world. The University has a population that consists of almost 5000 employees as well as over 22,000 students and over 150 buildings on 163 hectares and 20 parking lots containing over 4200 stalls.
As a member of the Campus Security team providing security, personal safety, parking, motor pool and emergency planning and reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the Administrative Support Assistant provides clerical and administrative support services to Campus Security including preparing correspondence, attending meetings to record and transcribe minutes, and maintaining a filing system all of which involves highly sensitive and confidential information. The position also provides direct administrative support to the management team.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in providing advanced administrative support, preferably in a post-secondary secondary or institutional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to prioritize and manage time and tasks with attention to detail.
Ability to problem solve by using judgement, independent thinking and/or analysis.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences.
Experience scheduling meetings and calendar coordination.
Experience composing various business communications such as emails, memos and reports.
Ability to work independently and prioritize a large workload while under pressure of deadlines and constant interruptions, and while performing detailed work accurately with limited supervision.
Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
Proficiency with computer applications (i.e., MS-Office Suite, Adobe Create Suite, content management systems).
Must have the ability to maintain a Security Officer level security clearance.
Must have the ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
Specialized Knowledge/Education
Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
Some post-secondary coursework preferred.
