Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, IT Analyst is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the organization on information systems, security, and applications/appliances, participating in the implementation of measures to maintain and enhance IT systems, security and recovery, assessing security risks and monitoring breaches to safeguard internal information systems and databases from unauthorized external and internal access. The IT Analyst is also responsible for the timely, efficient and highly effective technical support to the organization's internal clients by maintaining and supporting all new and existing communications and information systems technology and the administration of organization's systems.

Salary is based on a 40-hour work week, typically Monday to Friday. This position may require rotating/variable shift schedules of work as required, including evening, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
Security:
• Supports security related software and hardware such as firewalls and two-factor authentication
• Implements and documents policies, controls, procedures and practices to meet organizational security and contingency needs
• Coordinates and participates in projects related to IT security and provides practical problem solving skills in security design and implementation
• Evaluates, implements and configures new systems security tools and administers existing and new tools and user access privileges
• Assesses and analyzes internal and external threats and risks, performs audits and reviews for potential and actual security breaches and recommends or initiates appropriate actions in consultation with IT Director
• Participates in formulation and testing of contingency and business resumption plans and procedures
• Researches, evaluates and recommends practices, services and technologies and promotes awareness on IT security and contingency
• Assists in the development, administration and monitoring of network and computer security standards, such as firewalls and filters
System Management:
• Supports and maintains all IT wired and wireless communication systems, including but not limited to computer operating systems and applications, networking, telephone systems and mobile technology as well as computer peripherals, cabling TCP/IP and remote access methodologies (WINDOWS and LINUX operating systems, WANS/LANS, including switches, routers, bridges and repeaters)
• Assist with the implementation, update/upgrade and maintenance of new virtual and physical servers, applications, and appliances as requested by the Director and with the assistance of the IT Assistant
• Manages mobile device management, servers and storage, including WINDOWS, Sharepoint, Microsoft 365 and LINUX
• Ensured backup of network server shares on a daily basis
• Acts as back-up Radio System Manager
• Work directly with vendor support to address issues until successful resolution
• Travels to back-up sites and communication tower sites to assess and problem-solve communication issues as required
Troubleshooting/Customer Support
• Provides timely and efficient customer support to Kingston Police members when they experience difficulties with new or existing computer systems and applications
• Perform service on vehicle mounted laptops/tablets and radio systems as required
• In conjunction with IT Assistant and as required:
o provides support for printers, photocopiers and fax machines and maintain supplies
o performs service on vehicle-mounted computer and modems
o Resets passwords for all IT systems
• Sets-up, configures, tests and/or installs hardware and software on new and reallocated workstations or perform enhancements and patching to existing systems
• Performs preventative maintenance on hardware and/or software
• Completes regular checks on the status of operational and support hardware, taking appropriate action when necessary
• Administrates user access to network, voicemail, and computer applications by adding and/or changing system access as required
• Prepares e-token passwords and security card access for entry
Training:
• Provides information and training to users regarding new systems and applications
• Delivers personal computers and other IT equipment, sets up and instructs staff on its operation
• Stays current with trends and advancements in the IT field
Other:
• May periodically provide supervision to IT staff when IT Director is away
• Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have:
• Minimum 3-year College diploma in Computer Engineering technology program or university degree in Computer Science/Computing
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an Information Technology or related field
• Experience in wired and wireless communication systems (data, WiFi, VoIP and voice radio systems) and mobile device management (MDM) software
• Extensive experience managing servers and storage, including WINDOWS, Sharepoint, Microsoft 365 and LINUX)
ASSETS
• Experience in a highly secure environment (such as law enforcement)
• Network management experience and exposure to hyper-converged environments
• ITIL foundation, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and/or Informaiton Systems Security Professionals certifications
• Experience with security related software/hardware
• Experience with SIEM products, specifically Logrhythm
• Excellent customer service skills for internal and external contacts, including vendors and suppliers
• Knowledge of network and user security solutions such as firewalls, filters and related items
• Experience working independently and setting priorities for efficient task completion
• Ability to multitask and focus attention within a busy environment subject to interruptions
• Ability to investigate and analyse problems to determine the impact, scope and root cause and provide assistance in their resolution
• Client service orientation and responsiveness
