About Us
We are a growing healthcare organization seeking an experienced Database Architect / RDS Engineer to design, build, and manage a secure, scalable database infrastructure that supports our clinical and operational workflows.
This role requires someone who has hands-on experience building and managing databases in Amazon RDS and understands the complexities of healthcare data, compliance, and integrations.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for architecting and implementing a robust Amazon RDS database environment that supports healthcare operations including members, encounters, claims, referrals, care plans, and health plan reporting.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can design from scratch, implement securely, and manage ongoing performance and optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Architecture & Setup
• Design and implement a secure, scalable database environment in Amazon RDS
• Develop optimized schemas tailored to healthcare operations
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability
- Data Management & Integration
• Structure and manage data ingestion from multiple sources
• Implement data validation workflows to prevent duplicates and maintain integrity
• Maintain clean, normalized, and well-documented datasets
- Ongoing Database Administration
• Monitor database performance and optimize queries
• Manage backups, disaster recovery planning, and redundancy
• Implement and maintain HIPAA-compliant security protocols
• Control user access, roles, permissions, and audit logging
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues proactively
Required Qualifications
• Proven experience designing and implementing databases in Amazon RDS (required)
• Strong hands-on experience building and managing production-grade databases
• Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization
• Experience implementing ETL pipelines and data validation workflows
• Understanding of healthcare data structures and compliance requirements (HIPAA strongly preferred)
• Experience integrating data from EMRs such as eClinicalWorks (preferred)
• Strong knowledge of database normalization, indexing, and schema optimization
