Our Clients are hiring for a full-time, on-site position for a Financial Controller based in Burnaby, BC.
Responsibilities
The Financial Controller is responsible for the overall financial leadership, integrity, and performance of the company. This role oversees all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions while acting as a strategic partner to the Managing Director.
The Controller will lead full-cycle accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, and preparation of accurate financial statements.
The role is accountable for ensuring timely and accurate reporting to bonding companies, financial institutions, and external stakeholders.
This position will oversee project accounting functions including WIP reporting, work on hand, cash flow forecasting, sales forecasting, and job cost analysis.
The Controller will ensure all project-related expenses, purchase orders, vendor invoices, and credit card transactions are properly allocated and controlled.
The Controller will establish and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and standard operating procedures to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with CRA, tax regulations, and industry standards. This includes overseeing remittances, payroll compliance, and skilled trades reporting through ITA.
The role will supervise and mentor the accounting team, implement cross-training to ensure operational continuity, and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency.
Strategically, the Controller will support executive decision-making by providing financial analysis, budget oversight, cost control strategies, and performance insights. This includes identifying cost-saving opportunities, reporting discrepancies or risks, and ensuring financial discipline across departments.
The Controller will maintain regular communication with the M.D, providing clear financial updates, risk assessments, and recommendations to support business growth and profitability.
Preparation and processing of payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is preferred.
Construction industry experience required. Electrical industry will be an asset
3-5 years of proven experience as an Senior accountant or in a similar role with a focus on payroll, auditing, and corporate finance.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
