The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading daily mechanical and/or electrical maintenance activities within a pulp mill environment. This role ensures equipment reliability, safe work execution, regulatory compliance, and effective coordination between maintenance, operations, and engineering teams in a high-hazard, continuous-process setting.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise unionized and/or non-union maintenance trades (millwrights, electricians, instrumentation technicians)
Plan, schedule, and execute preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities
Coordinate maintenance work with production to minimize downtime and optimize asset reliability
Ensure compliance with WorkSafe / OH&S, environmental, and company safety standards
Lead lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and hazard assessments
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Support major outages, shutdowns, and turnaround maintenance
Maintain CMMS records (work orders, PMs, parts usage, labour tracking)
Manage contractors and vendors during maintenance projects
Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and continuous improvement initiatives
Support capital projects, equipment installations, and upgrades
Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance team members
Required Qualifications
Red Seal Journeyperson (Millwright, Electrician, or Industrial Mechanic) or equivalent technical background
5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in pulp & paper, sawmill, mining, chemical, or heavy manufacturing
2+ years of supervisory or lead-hand experience in a maintenance environment
Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, boilers, and process systems
Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
Proficiency with CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo, JD Edwards, etc.)
Strong safety leadership and regulatory knowledge
