General Accountability
Responsible for managing the underwriting administrative support to all UW departments in the SGI CANADA division (Saskatchewan/Alberta/BC/Ontario/Manitoba). Defines and monitors productivity standards. Collaborates with Corporate Underwriting and other internal departments, such as Corporate Services and operational Underwriting, to streamline and improve workflows as well as transition underwriting administrative processes to the area.

Ensures development of divisional succession plans.
Builds a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies, ensuring integration with employee performance development and career development plans.

Process and Work-Flow Management
Defines and monitors productivity benchmarks and oversees the need for change.
Supports and administers broker and customer service standards.
Manage and monitors incoming broker transaction requests; create quarterly reports and recommends changes to the UAS department structure to achieve production and service standards.
Reviews and continuously initiates new internal handling processes, automation and procedures to effectively meet departmental goals and stakeholder expectations.
Liaise with other Divisional management to support process mapping in order to create efficiencies on policy, procedures and practices to improve underwriting services.
Develops and manages complex and weekly staff scheduling to ensure specialized staff are available to meet the needs of underwriting demands and service deliverables and standards can be met and maintained.
Underwriting Production
Collaborates and coordinates with Corporate Underwriting, managers and employees to establish resource allocation and implement changes to efficiently operate the department.
Directs the triage procedures and process of UW policies on new business, renewals, revisions, and cancelations of product in all regions.
Assists in the development, and executes the delivery, of the UW program with a focus on policy administrative and data entry processing in all regions.
Stakeholder Relations
Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal departments, broker and industry partners, and consumers.
Works in partnership with internal departments, brokers and consumers to improve products, services and procedures focused on customer centricity.
Communicates and implements changes to support corporate strategic initiatives while ensuring departmental resources align with overall corporate strategies.
Product Support, Maintenance and Development
Develops and delivers an effective training strategy for internal employees.
Provides technical assistance to employees and internal departments on pre- underwriting transactions or processes for UW business.
Oversees the daily administration of policy document distribution, registered letters, return mail and financial payments.
Ensures administration, practices and procedures to support UW programs align with established Corporate and departmental guidelines.
Collaborates with SGI CANADA managers, Corporate Underwriting and Business Development on product development initiatives and changes.
Communicates changes in products, services and procedures to affected stakeholders.
Corporate Management
Ensures programs and policies are in alignment with corporate and divisional strategies.
Manages risk in area of authority.
Prepares, reviews, manages and/or approves departmental/divisional budgets.
Prepares decision requests, decision and/or information items and/or SGI board items.
Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility, including development, implementation and managing of program components specific to departmental health and safety requirements.
Makes decisions for departmental operations that are efficient, effective and in alignment with strategic direction and priorities.
Ensures department and program policies, procedures and guidelines are in compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulations; implements and evaluates changes to legislation and regulations in area of authority.
Establishes and maintains an effective system of internal controls to support reliable financial reporting and compliance in accordance with applicable laws and regulations within the span of control and communicates the importance of internal controls to staff.
Education and Experience
A four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business.
Eight years' experience comprised of four years leadership and four years underwriting experience and/or office administration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of common processes and practices in the operations of a professional environment.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance.
Knowledge of all aspects of applicable insurance product coverages.
Knowledge of other insurance product lines, reinsurance and claims.
Knowledge of organizational units and how they interact to support the corporation's operations.
Knowledge of lean principles, quality improvement and business process methods, techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of ADKAR Change Management Principles
Skill in planning and organizing.
Skill in using multiple computer software programs, including Guidewire, General Insurance System (GIS), Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, SharePoint and PowerPoint).
