Job Title: Google Tag Manager & Google Ads Tracking Specialist (E-commerce Fix)
Project Overview
We are an established gardening retailer (Home & Garden sector) running high-budget Search and Performance Max campaigns. We have identified significant data discrepancies and tracking errors in our Google Ads account—specifically massive over-reporting and duplicate conversion counting. We need a technical specialist to audit our "plumbing" and implement a robust, deduplicated tracking system.
The Problem
Double/Triple Counting: One of our Search campaigns is reporting a 355% conversion rate (4,191 conversions from 1,179 clicks).
Revenue Inflation: Our PMax report shows ~$111k in revenue for a product family, while our backend shows ~$61k.
Lack of Deduplication: We suspect page refreshes and duplicate "Primary" tags (Google Ads Tag vs. GA4 Import) are inflating our ROAS, leading to poor automated bidding decisions.
Scope of Work (The Mission)
Comprehensive Tracking Audit: Identify exactly where duplicate tags are firing (GTM vs. hardcoded vs. GA4 imports).
Implementation of Transaction IDs: Ensure every purchase event passes a unique Order ID/Transaction ID to Google Ads to prevent deduplication from page refreshes.
Deduplication Strategy: Audit "Primary" vs. "Secondary" conversion actions in Google Ads to ensure we are only bidding against a single source of truth.
Enhanced Conversions: Configure Enhanced Conversions for Web to improve attribution accuracy.
DataLayer Review: Ensure the DataLayer is correctly passing value, currency, and transaction_id from our (Insert Platform: e.g., Shopify/WooCommerce/Custom) store.
Final Validation: Provide a testing report/video proof using Google Tag Assistant showing one order = one recorded conversion with the correct value.
Required Experience
Expert-level knowledge of Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Server-Side Tracking.
Proven track record fixing Google Ads conversion over-reporting.
Experience with DataLayer manipulation and JavaScript for e-commerce.
Familiarity with the Home & Garden / Retail sector is a plus.
Must understand Performance Max signal requirements.
Project Budget & Timeline
Type: Fixed-price project.
