Job Description This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring reporting to the office a minimum of three times per week. The Role Join our innovative team at General Motors, where telematics data is a foundational element of our software-defined vehicle strategy. This data is crucial for improving vehicle safety, security, and product development, while also enhancing customer experience. The analytical datastore team is responsible for the platform that manages data streamed from millions of vehicles worldwide. We are looking for a skilled engineer with extensive experience in both data and software, proficient in designing and maintaining large-scale systems. In this technical leadership position, you will be integral in building a platform that supports numerous use cases requiring telematics data, benefiting internal analytics users and millions of retail and fleet customers. This is a high-impact and high-visibility role! What You'll Do Develop a scalable data platform to accommodate growing data volumes and complexities. Create and maintain data pipelines that efficiently ingest, process, and curate large datasets using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Event Hubs, and Azure Data Lake Storage. Support the infrastructure to optimize data ingestion, transformation, and storage. Work closely with data scientists to meet the advanced machine learning development needs. Implement thorough data observability, validation, governance, and quality assurance checks. Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance, coaching, and learning opportunities. Simplify processes and document your work comprehensively! Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of data engineering experience, including proficiency in Python or Scala, SQL, and various data storage solutions. 3+ years of experience in distributed, petabyte-scale data processing using Spark along with familiarity with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes. Expertise in performance tuning methods such as partitioning, clustering, caching, and serialization techniques. Strong grasp of infrastructure as code (IaC) and best practices in CI/CD. Proven expertise with one or more cloud platforms, preferably Azure. Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, metadata management, data quality, observability, or MLOps. Knowledgeable in schema design and data contracts. Excellent teamwork and leadership abilities to collaborate effectively across product, program, and engineering teams. What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications) Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Experience in processing and storing various file formats, including video, audio, and images. Experience with tools such as Databricks or Snowflake, which are integral for our downstream consumers. General Motors may offer relocation benefits for this position. Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is $134,000 - $219,000, depending on various relevant factors. Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program depending on company, job level, and individual performance.
