Position Title: Project Coordinator
Organization: Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO)
Start Date: Immediate
Location: Hybrid
Compensation: $27.00 – $30.00 per hour
Contract Length: 12 months
Schedule: 20-25 hours/week (Must be willing to work some weekend)
Position Overview
The Project Coordinator will support the delivery and growth of SCAGO's Youth Empowerment Program, which engages youth aged 15–30 from the sickle cell community in leading initiatives that give back to the community. This role combines program coordination, youth support, and community engagement.
The coordinator will work closely with youth, families, and regional partners to ensure programs are accessible, supportive, and responsive to the needs of individuals impacted by sickle cell disease. The ideal candidate brings a background in social work, psychology, or a related field, with experience supporting vulnerable populations and fostering safe, inclusive environments for youth, individuals and families.
Candidates must reside in the Sudbury region to provide in-person support and onsite oversight. Applicants outside the area will not be considered.
Qualifications
Background in social work, psychology, child and youth care, or a related field
Experience working with youth and/or vulnerable populations
Demonstrated skills in supportive communication, counselling, or case coordination
Experience in community engagement/events, outreach, or program coordination
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered approaches
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate day-to-day delivery of the Youth Empowerment Program, including workshops planning, check-ins, and mentorship activities
Support youth in developing and implementing community-based projects and monitor their progress
Provide supportive check-ins and guidance to youth, using strong listening and counselling-informed skills
Circulate program opportunities to patients and families and encourage participation in community engagement initiatives
Assist with planning and supporting community events and youth-led outreach activities
Conduct outreach to schools, healthcare organizations, and community partners to strengthen program visibility
Track participation, engagement, and project outcomes and provide regular updates to leadership
Maintain organized records, communications, and program documentation
Attend meetings, events, and planning sessions as required
Attend staff meetings, strategic planning sessions, and SCAGO events as required.
Note: Responsibilities may evolve as the program adapts to meet the changing needs of youth and the community.
