SUMMARY

The Journeyperson Plumber – Roving has a minimum of 5 years' experience and holds a valid Certificate of Qualification issued by the province in which the work is performed. This role is responsible for travelling between multiple client sites to perform installation work, service and repair activities, preventative and corrective maintenance, and supporting mechanical systems across various facilities.

The roving technician must be adaptable, self-directed, and comfortable working independently while ensuring work is completed in accordance with internal and external requirements, including environmental, health and safety, security, and fire protection regulations. Backflow Assembly testing/installation/repair certification or experience is required.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation & Troubleshooting

  • Determines piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
  • Measures, cuts, threads, and bends pipes to the required shape and size.
  • Interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to map the layout of plumbing systems and mechanical piping.
  • Installs, replaces, and repairs valves, pumps, fixtures, piping systems, and related equipment.
  • Performs installation support for tenant improvements and small projects at multiple facilities.
  • Performs Backflow device installation, testing, and repairs

Service & Maintenance

  • Responds to urgent, routine, and complex service calls across multiple sites, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Performs diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on domestic water systems, sanitary systems, storm systems, heating systems, and hydronic equipment.
  • Conducts detailed system inspections, including water heaters, boilers, circulation pumps, mixing valves, PRVs, drainage systems, and emergency fixtures.
  • Performs root-cause analysis for recurring service issues and provides corrective recommendations.
  • Executes preventative maintenance programs, including flushing, descaling, trap maintenance, drainage maintenance, and mechanical equipment servicing.
  • Completes Backflow device service, including annual testing, reporting, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Ensures code compliance during all service work and identifies non-compliant installations or hazards.
  • Maintains service logs, PM checklists, and asset history to support long-term building performance.
  • Manages parts sourcing, site coordination, and follow-up service requirements.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of tools, materials, and testing equipment while roving between sites.

Client Relations

  • Provides professional communication and observations regarding facility conditions, deficiencies, and recommendations.
  • Represents the Service Operations team effectively across multiple client locations.

Administration

  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated environmental, health and safety, and fire protection requirements.
  • Submits expenditures, service reports, and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in facility-related projects and supports cross-functional teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILSS 

  • Valid Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber or Pipefitter (province-specific).
  • Backflow certification or documented Backflow experience is required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in plumbing/mechanical trades.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes, building standards, and fire/life safety requirements.
  • High client‑service orientation and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple locations.
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby, and emergency call-outs.
  • Must wear PPE as required.
  • Must meet security clearance requirements.
  • Valid driver's license required (daily travel between sites).

LICENSES & PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATIONS

Required:

  • Valid Journeyperson Plumbing or Pipefitting license (province-specific).
  • Backflow Assembly certification (or equivalent authority-recognized credential).

This is a regular, full-time position with an hourly rate as prescribed by the UA46 union
