Under the direction of the Manager, Mechanical Services, Energy South Operations (ESO), the Mechanical Maintenance Planner will plan and coordinate various mechanical maintenance activities required to achieve optimum reliability through efficient use of human resources, time, equipment and material in the ESO Division utilizing NTPC's Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) system. The primary responsibility is to eliminate waste from maintenance activities and premature equipment failures through planning and preliminary scheduling of service activities.
The Mechanical Maintenance Planner is accountable for driving continuous improvement of maintenance activities, through supporting Manager, Mechanical Services coordinating maintenance efforts of the Manager, Substations & Electrical Services and the Electrical Maintenance Planner. The key driver of this role is to ensure the Tradespersons' tool time is maximized through the CMMS system. This position is also responsible for tracking and generating management reports for costs incurred from maintenance services or maintenance requests and maintenance forecasting and planning.
Responsibilities- Maximize operating profit and equipment reliability and availability through planned maintenance. Investigates, evaluates, plans on and prioritizes Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) requests regarding maintenance and repairs.
- Assists Mechanical & Electrical Services Managers by monitoring and reporting on the implementation of operational and maintenance strategies/practices in collaboration with the Electrical Planner.
- Monitors assigned capital projects and ensures compliance with all policies and procedures relating to reporting, purchasing, and contract administration.
- Contributes to the achievement of Maintenance objectives by producing monthly, quarterly and yearly schedules of maintenance activities.
- Contributes to maintenance efficiency and effectiveness by facilitating reviews of maintenance activities with all concerned to seek ways of improvement. Reports such activities and initiates action in conjunction with ESO Operations, Mechanical & Electrical Services Managers.
- Identifies key issues and patterns from available data, to identify problems, conflicts to find solutions and alternatives i.e. repetitive failures and/or preventative maintenance modifications. The role is pivotal in achieving critical analysis opportunities for ESO's assets. Report back to the management team on recommendations based on this work.
- Works closely with the ESO Asset Manager to ensure reliability of equipment and assets. Supports the ESO Asset Manager with CMMS history data for critical/major equipment.
- Provides support in the pursuit of continuous improvement following the fundamentals of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and seeks to find ways to optimize equipment reliability.
- Assists ESO Management with the planning and maintenance for hydro shutdown activity, including staff availability and scheduling.
- Mechanical technologist diploma OR Mechanical Trades Red Seal Journeyperson certificate with a minimum of five years related experience, including CMMS, in a power utility plant including both Hydro and Diesel generation.
- Direct hands-on experience in maintenance planning and use of the organization's GuideTi CMMS system is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge in computer applications normally acquired through several years of experience and or formal training. Programs include; CMMS, Word processing, spread sheets, database, scheduling, electronic mail/internet and programs.
- Demonstration of good planning, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must pay close attention to detail exercising good judgment in planning and detailing maintenance work.
- Able to interpret and evaluate need and cost of maintenance and repair work.
- Must manage time effectively, organize and prioritze multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Must have holistic view of both Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance.
- Must have a valid NWT Class 5 driver's license or higher.
- Must provide satisfactory criminal record check.
Salary for this position ranges from $54.10/hr - $65.72/hr plus location allowance of approximately $4,642 per annum. This position is located in Yellowknife, NT. Relocation assistance may be provided.
