With pioneering tools such as Climate FieldView and our ForGround regenerative agriculture platform, you will be instrumental in driving forward-looking advancements in agriculture. If you are an entrepreneurial thinker who thrives on turning internal customers into enthusiastic advocates, this role is for you. As a Lead Cloud Solutions Engineer within Bayer Digital Farming, you will take charge of our shared AWS platform, empowering numerous engineers to deliver secure, reliable software rapidly. You will treat our platform as a product, curating streamlined solutions, advocating for DevSecOps practices, and focusing on improving developer experience, cost efficiency, and reliability. We manage one of the largest and most diverse agronomic data portfolios globally. Your mission will be to enhance the productivity of our engineering teams by simplifying the transition from concept to production using existing tools and best practices while fostering an ownership mentality. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Enablement & Support (Primary Focus)
Be a hands-on Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our internal toolchain, such as Terraform modules, AWS Service Catalog, GitLab CI, Datadog/CloudWatch, and Backstage/IDP. Conduct office hours, create templates, produce clear documentation, and collaborate with teams to accelerate tool adoption. Triage and address platform requests, establish SLAs/SLOs, and clarify ownership boundaries.
Own Paved Roads & Golden Paths
Maintain opinionated Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules and deployment blueprints, concentrating on multi-account setups, networking, security, and observability. Standardize security-first practices (VPC, IAM, KMS, secrets management, logging, ALB/API Gateway, S3/Lambda/ECS/EKS) with policy-as-code guardrails.
Drive DevSecOps Outcomes
Integrate security controls into CI/CD processes, including linting, SAST/DAST, SBOMs, and IaC checks. Work closely with Security, Compliance, and Data teams to maintain automated, audit-ready controls.
Measure, Learn, Iterate (Ownership Mindset)
Evaluate and report on developer experience KPIs, such as lead time/DORA metrics, onboarding duration, time-to-first-deploy, and CI success rate. Conduct lightweight experimentation (A/B documents, template modifications) and implement improvements with a product-focused mindset.
Reliability & Cost Stewardship
Create straightforward observability for platform components to minimize Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR) with effective runbooks. Implement FinOps practices: right-sizing, establishing cost guardrails/budgets/alerts, and guiding teams toward optimal spending.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Act as a trusted advisor to application delivery units, Security, and Data teams, translating requirements into paved road enhancements. Mentor engineers and foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
