What You'll Do: As an Applied Scientist Intern, you will play a crucial role in developing next-generation enterprise AI products that enhance large-scale data analysis. You'll work at the forefront of leveraging Oracle's advanced capabilities in data management and enterprise software, integrating pioneering technologies like generative AI and sophisticated machine learning techniques. Your responsibilities will include: conducting research and prototyping in generative AI focusing on both structured and unstructured data, creating AI agents, optimizing reasoning LLMs, and refining retrieval techniques and inference scaling. We're seeking PhD students who excel in an independent work environment, can swiftly identify relevant research, and develop empirical hypotheses and research questions to address complex issues rigorously. What You'll Bring: Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Linguistics, or a related field during the 2025-2026 academic year, with plans to return after the internship. Documented experience in crafting and implementing scalable AI/ML systems in production contexts. Strong knowledge base in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Generative AI, particularly with LLMs and reasoning models. Experience with both structured data systems (SQL, analytics engines) and unstructured data (documents, text corpora). Practical expertise in LLM frameworks and agentic tools, such as: LangChain VectorStores, retrievers, and hybrid retrieval methods Graph-based or knowledge-augmented generation (GraphRAG) LLM Cache and orchestration tools (MLFlow) Fine-tuning LLMs, Reinforcement Learning, and Reward modeling Inference scaling, training verifiers, and critic models Solid research background with a strong publication record in top-tier conferences (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICLR, NAACL). Must reside in the United States or attend a university in the US. Eligible to obtain work authorization in the US in 2026. Salary and Benefits: Hourly pay ranges from $19.62 to $38.32, equating to an annual salary between $40,800 and $79,700.
