The United States Border Patrol (USBP) is a highly skilled and elite team of law enforcement professionals who protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity.

• Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws; inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.

• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens; detecting smugglers of noncitizens at or near the borders through surveillance from covert positions using infrared scopes during night operations.

• Interpreting physical evidence such as tracks, marks, and other signs of illegal entry into areas to locate those attempting to enter illegally;
