Summer Junior Systems Analyst

Location: 11738 Kingsway Avenue Edmonton, Alberta

Closing Date: April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found

Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August) 

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a full-time, temporary, Summer Junior Systems Analyst. This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. This position will support the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government systems and processes. Reporting to the IT Manager, the Summer Junior Systems Analyst will support the Facilities and Building Operations Department by assisting with software deployment, reviewing policies and procedures, and recommending improvements to efficiency, compliance, and user experience. The successful candidate will have strong technology skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department's goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifies, reviews, analyzes, and validates system and user requirements to ensure they are complete and accurate.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops for subject matter experts in system configuration.
  • Help develop and maintain templates, checklists, and tools to support project consistency and efficiency.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data to support business and project decision-making.
  • Assist in the implementation, configuration, and testing of new software systems and applications.
  • Carry out assigned project tasks efficiently and within established timelines to support overall project progress.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and process information to support system tracking and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the IT team and Otipemisiwak Métis Government departments to troubleshoot issues and recommend system or process improvements.
  • Prepare and maintain technical and user documentation, including process maps, training guides, and knowledge resources.
  • Support user onboarding, training, and system rollouts.
  • Draft, format, and support the development of project documentation including proposals, business requirements, presentations, and summary reports by assisting with content preparation, review, and refinement under supervision.
  • Contribute to project execution by coordinating logistics, conducting research, and gathering data to inform planning and decision-making.
  • Assist in requirements gathering and contribute to solution design discussions under supervision.
  • Develop tools and applications using Microsoft Power Apps.
  • Automate business processes and workflows using Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Provide coordination support across the project team and contribute to a positive, solution-focused work environment.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

  • Ability to work in an open work environment independently as well as with a very collaborative team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to be resourceful and respond to difficult situations or workplace requirements by using the available tools and information to support decisions and solutions.
  • Ability to provide exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders with professionalism, efficiency, and a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.

Qualifications 

  • Obtained or pursuing education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Other Relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Power Automate programs.
  • 2-3 years' experience in a similar role is an asset. Volunteer or school experience is considered valid.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work in the office in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, with notice.
