ELECTRONICS DESIGN ENGINEER

Voxelis Inc. | Richmond, BC

ABOUT VOXELIS

Voxelis is developing autonomous systems for helicopters to protect communities and natural resources. Our flagship product, VoxVision, is a nose-mounted data collection and copilot platform designed for wildfire fighting applications. VoxVision combines high-resolution mapping cameras with pilot-controlled gimbal systems featuring zoom and thermal imaging—enabling critical intelligence gathering in dangerous environments.

We're a fast-growing startup (11 team members and expanding) working at the intersection of aerospace, computer vision, and autonomous systems. If you want to see your electronics work saving lives and forests, this is your opportunity.

THE ROLE

As Electronics Design Engineer, you'll own the electronics development of VoxVision from R&D through production. You'll bridge the gap between prototype and certified product, leading hardware improvements while scaling our manufacturing capabilities. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll design circuits, debug assemblies, and build the foundation for production-scale operations.

You'll manage a co-op student and production technician while working closely with our mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to deliver reliable electronics in the demanding aerospace environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and improve PCB assemblies for VoxVision's camera systems, power distribution, and sensor interfaces

  • Lead electronics integration for new hardware versions and subsystems

  • Manage PCB procurement, assembly sourcing, and vendor relationships

  • Debug and troubleshoot electronic assemblies using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters

  • Create technical drawings, schematics, and design documentation for certification processes

  • Develop test procedures and quality control processes for production scaling

  • Support flight testing and field deployment troubleshooting

  • Mentor junior team members and coordinate production workflows

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in electronics design and PCB development

  • Proficiency in Altium Designer (schematic capture, PCB layout, libraries)

  • Strong understanding of high-speed digital interfaces: I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB

  • Hands-on experience with debug tools: oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers

  • Proficiency in Python and C++ for embedded applications and automation

  • Experience with wire harness design and interconnect systems

  • Familiarity with Linux environments and embedded systems development

  • Ability to read datasheets, interpret specifications, and design to requirements

  • Strong communication skills and ability to create clear technical documentation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with aerospace, defense, or safety-critical systems

  • Knowledge of environmental testing and qualification processes

  • Familiarity with imaging systems, cameras, or sensor integration

  • Experience scaling products from prototype to production

  • Background in power electronics, thermal management, or EMI/EMC considerations

  • Competence navigating standards (DO-160, MIL-STD, etc.)

WHAT YOU'LL WORK WITH

  • Multi-camera imaging systems mounted on helicopters

  • Embedded compute platforms (NVIDIA Jetson, custom carrier boards)

  • Gimbal control systems and motor drivers

  • Power distribution networks operating in harsh environments

  • High-speed data interfaces and communication protocols

WHY VOXELIS

  • Work on technology that directly saves lives and protects communities

  • See your designs fly—literally

  • Ground-floor opportunity in a rapidly growing aerospace startup

  • Hands-on role with ownership and impact

  • Collaborative team tackling hard problems at the edge of multiple disciplines
