- Inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations
- Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers of noncitizens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions
- Interpret tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband;
