À propos

*Use your logical thinking, discipline, and problem-solving persistence to help build and refine systems in an industry long held back by unnecessary complexity, over-documentation, and lazy practices.*
*Do so within a systematic culture that is just descriptive enough for direction, yet flexible enough for refinement and improvement – from a company that is fast-growing, energetic, and focused on building things properly, with clarity, purpose, and long-term value.*
*This role has significant strategic importance and supports both those who prefer to remain focused on hands‑on development and, for the right person, those who wish to progress into senior technical leadership roles such as Head of Engineering or CTO as our SaaS platform matures.*
*About the Company*
EmmersonWills is a growing business consultancy. Our primary service is the design, installation, and ongoing support of management systems for clients throughout the UK. Our main focus, in an ever-expanding scope, is the simplification and disruption of ISO management systems such as 9001 Quality, 14001 Environmental, and 45001 Health & Safety.
We pride ourselves on being _The ISO Simplification Experts_. Everything we do is driven by practicality, clarity, and systems that genuinely work in real organisations – not just on paper. This philosophy now extends to the development of our own internal cloud-based operating management system, built entirely around our IP and approach.
*About the Position*
Due to ongoing growth and strategic development, we are looking for a *Software Developer* to design, build, and maintain EmmersonWills’ internal cloud-based operating management system.
This role is not about reinventing the wheel or building generic software. Your first priority will be to translate EmmersonWills’ established methodology, business logic, and operating principles into a controlled, simple, and scalable digital system. Once embedded internally, this system will form the foundation of a subscription-based platform used by our clients alongside our consultancy services.
You will work closely with the MD and consulting team to accurately capture and implement defined requirements. The role requires discipline, restraint, and a practical mindset – building systems that are clear, reliable, and maintainable, rather than complex or over-engineered.
This is a key internal role with long‑term importance to the business, offering a strong path for hands‑on developers, while, also opening the door (for those who wish to pursue it) to broader architectural ownership, platform‑level decision‑making, and potential progression into roles such as Head of Engineering or CTO as the system matures.
*Working Pattern*
This role primarily operates Monday to Friday. While there is flexibility once established, the position should be considered largely office‑based, with regular in‑person collaboration expected when needed to support system design and development. Applicants must live within a commutable distance, as close interaction with the MD and wider team forms an important part of the role, so please only apply if this is realistically feasible for you.
*Compensation*
Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 per annum, depending on experience and strategic fit, with progression aligned to increased technical ownership and leadership.
*Benefits*
* Company pension
* Laptop and equipment provided
* 31 days leave (20 holiday + 8 bank holidays + 3 Christmas shutdown)
*Responsibilities:*
_(Non-Exhaustive)_
* Design, build, and maintain EmmersonWills’ internal cloud-based operating management system, fully aligned with the company’s methodology and principles.
* Translate defined business, compliance, and operational requirements into clear and reliable system functionality without unnecessary complexity.
* Create repeatable, scalable internal software tools to support the delivery, installation, auditing, and ongoing maintenance of client management systems.
* Implement and maintain structured user access, permissions, and secure separation of client data.
* Design and maintain simple, auditable data structures to support records, registers, matrices, workflows, and reporting.
* Work closely with the MD and consulting teams to accurately capture and embed EmmersonWills’ IP into the system.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal digital tools to ensure they remain practical, intuitive, and aligned with real-world use.
* Produce clear internal documentation explaining system logic, structure, and intended use to support longevity and continuity.
* Manage system updates, refinements, and improvements in a controlled and traceable manner.
* Support testing, refinement, and real-world use of the system prior to wider client rollout.
* Ensure appropriate consideration is given to data security, confidentiality, and system reliability at all times.
_Essential (E) or Desirable (D)_
*Skills & competencies:*
* Ability to work across the full stack, with experience in both frontend and backend development (E)
* Experience implementing backend business logic in a structured, maintainable way (E)
* Practical experience designing and working with databases and structured data (E)

*Strengths Fit*
At EmmersonWills, this role suits someone whose natural way of thinking aligns with structured problem‑solving and system refinement. You’ll enjoy building things that work quietly and reliably, valuing clarity over cleverness.
You’ll take satisfaction from simplifying, improving, and maintaining systems over time, rather than continually adding features. You’ll be comfortable working within defined principles, while contributing thoughtfully to how systems evolve to better support the business and its clients.
The role is well‑suited to someone who thrives in hands‑on development, while also offering space — for those with the interest or readiness — to take on broader architectural ownership and potentially move into senior technical roles such as Head of Engineering or CTO as the platform matures.
_A brief cover letter explaining your interest in the role would be appreciated and will go a long way in helping us understand your fit._
Interviews will be on a rolling basis. This will involve an initial phone meeting followed by an invitation to meet in person.
_No agency help at this time, thank you._
