The Bell in Scona Brewery is seeking an Assistant General Manager to support daily brewpub operations while delivering a consistently high-quality guest experience. This is a hands-on leadership role for a hospitality professional who understands how strong operations, engaged teams, and measurable performance drive success.
This position may occasionally support other areas of the business as operational needs require.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations
- Support day-to-day brewpub operations across front and back of house
- Lead shifts to ensure efficiency, cleanliness, and adherence to standards
- Assist with inventory control, purchasing, and cost management
- Support scheduling, timekeeping, and labour deployment
- Ensure compliance with AHS, workplace safety, and liquor regulations
- Identify operational gaps and implement practical improvements
Guest Experience
- Maintain high standards for service quality, hospitality, and product consistency
- Be present on the floor during service to support staff and guests
- Respond to guest feedback and resolve issues professionally
- Support training and coaching to ensure consistent service execution
- Help create an environment that encourages repeat visits and positive reviews
Qualifications & Skills
- 2+ years of experience in restaurant or hospitality management
- Strong working knowledge of FOH and BOH operations
- Demonstrated ability to understand, track, and act on operational metrics
- Experience reviewing reports related to sales, labour, and costs
- Comfort using POS, scheduling, and inventory management systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Interest in craft beer and brewpub operations is an asset
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Assistant General Manager will be expected to help monitor and improve performance in the following areas:
- Labour Cost % (scheduled vs. actual)
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) – food and beverage
- Sales Performance (daily, weekly, and period-over-period trends)
- Average Check Size & Sales Mix
- Guest Satisfaction (reviews, feedback, repeat visits)
- Speed of Service & Table Turn Times
- Inventory Accuracy & Waste Reduction
- Staff Retention and Training Completion
