Human Resources Manager

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Position Overview:

Ronald McDonald House Maritimes is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children and families. We provide a supportive and caring environment for families who must travel to receive medical treatment for their children, operating several programs, including a newly constructed Ronald McDonald House in Halifax, NS, and Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms in Moncton, NB and Halifax, NS. Ronald McDonald House Maritimes is part of a supportive global network sharing resources, training, and best practices among chapters.

Ronald McDonald House Maritimes is recruiting a Human Resources Manager to lead recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of programs and benefits to support people and culture. The Human Resources Manager will support all aspects of the people strategy, including fostering a respectful, healthy, safe, inclusive, and engaged workplace.

This role provides HR insights and works with the Senior Leadership Team to build organizational capacity to achieve the strategic plan and fulfill the chapter's mission. The incumbent oversees all HR activities, policies and processes, ensuring compliance with all employment-related legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Collaboratively identifies current and future staffing needs and associated budgets

  • Supports the full cycle of recruitment including development of job descriptions, postings, screening and short-listing applicants, scheduling and conducting interviews, and reference checks to identify core competencies and organizational fit

  • Prepares and delivers letters of offer and compensation packages

  • Implements diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility values within hiring practices

  • Prepares and executes customized onboarding orientation and training programs

  • Ensures adequate health & safety training and risk mitigation measures are implemented, updated and maintained across the organization

  • Together with the Finance & HR Administrator, oversees the total compensation program including bi-weekly payroll, and administers group benefits and RRSP matching programs

  • Applies for educational or employment grants and reporting where applicable

  • Assists Board Governance with board member recruitment and screening

People Engagement, Retention and Stewardship

  • Partner with the Senior Leadership Team to develop policies, programs, and procedures that ensure an inclusive and engaged workforce and are consistent with statutory and regulatory requirements

  • Supports Senior Leadership Team in developing goals, metrics-based outcomes, and performance management programs to monitor success and growth of team members

  • Leads the development of the annual training and development plan for the organization, identifying internal and external training/professional development needs, developing programs where necessary, and delivering training where appropriate

Creates and administers employee recognition programs to celebrate employee milestones and achievements

  • Promotes culture of appreciation and recognition to create meaningful and rewarding experience for all employees

  • Provides feedback and recommendations to enhance employee engagement including team building events

  • Acts as an employee advocate and management liaison for employee relations matters

  • Actively participates as a member of the Occupational Health & Safety Committee, working with the Committee Chair to coordinate, manage and measure safety practices including training, compliance, and workers' compensation

  • Maintains the HR handbook and organizational policies

  • Calm under pressure and able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Proficiency in MS Office and other recruitment tools

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree/Diploma in human resources, administration, business management preferred or equivalent education, CPHR is an asset.

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Human Resources generalist or manager role

  • Nonprofit experience an asset

  • Experience using people management software an asset

  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal employment/labour laws. This includes familiarity with statutory legislations such as ESA, Human Rights, AODA, OHSA, etc.

  • Experience with equity, diversity and inclusion programs in the workplace an asset

Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector check, and Child Abuse Registry check will be required and coordinated

Hours & Location:

· Ronald McDonald House, 5950 South St., Halifax, NS.

· Generally, 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday, evenings and weekends hours as required

·Minimal travel is required

Compensation:

· Salary: $70,000 – $80,000
