About the jobIn this role you will:
- Provide team leadership to program area staff in the planning, development, coordination, execution and implementation of transportation infrastructure projects
- Lead the coordination and prioritization of procurement for transportation infrastructure, ensuring compatibility with government objectives, and ministry and division plans, projects, and policies
- Manage interactions, transfer knowledge and build relationships reactively and proactively both internally and between the ministry and its relevant transportation infrastructure stakeholders
- Drive organization and coordination with cross functional teams and stakeholders by using project management expertise and processes
- Oversee daily activities of project teams, including planning, developing, coordinating and monitoring work, providing leadership, subject matter expertise, and motivation and technical direction
Project and Risk Management Skills:
- skills and knowledge of project management theory, methodologies and techniques to provide overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of projects
- experience and skills with risk management principles and methodologies to proactively manages risks to minimize occurrence of issues, perform impact analysis and prioritization, and make decisions/recommendations to mitigate risks
- experience and skills with service provider agreement administration including creating terms of reference, acquisition, evaluation, debriefing, scope change management, payment and performance management.
- negotiation skills to drive realistic requirements, budgets, resources, and timelines, and deliver the projects on time and on budget
- consensus building, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to lead client and project meetings, manage stakeholders and communication streams, to identify requirements, develop strategies and obtain input into the development and implementation of projects
- influencing skills to provide briefings to senior management and oversee the work of other project managers/team members towards common outcomes and project execution
- strategic thinking skills to anticipate project stakeholder needs; to identify and solve complex problems utilizing strong conflict management skills; to manage planning and execution of projects across multiple levels of the ministry
- organization and planning skills to manage a number of complex issues while continuing to deliver results; to design, schedule and monitor concurrent projects, which may involve multiple clients and diverse requests for services.
- analytical and problem-solving skills to develop project plans, anticipate potential issues and roadblocks, recommend innovative strategies, and coordinate all phases of a projects; to analyze project and program area requirements and complete in-depth investigation and analysis of potential options
- analytical and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities for improvement as well as identify project resources and risk
- leadership skills to coach and mentor project teams to achieve results, set direction and approach, resolve conflict and motivate performance
- political acuity to work strategically with both ministry senior management and program area managers
- negotiation skills to resolve transportation problems/issues
