Hours of work:

  • 37.5 work week, typical shifts start at 8:30am.
  • Shifts are 5 consecutive days in a 7 day week.
  • Shift may include weekends.
  • Vacation requests will not be approved between Start and End of the term position.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Residence Facilities, the Supervisor of Housekeeping demonstrates a high level of professionalism at supervising and coordinating work, for the Housekeeping team of approximately 30-50 Service Workers (SWs). The Housekeeping team is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and inviting environment for students, staff and guests that live and work at the Residence Complex at UVic. The Supervisor of the Housekeeping team will also submit and track service request, create and maintain documents required for daily operations, maintain a high standard of cleanliness and safety, and serves to enhance the customer service experience of students, guests and staff.

  • Ability to operate and demonstrate all hand and power cleaning tools.
  • Willingness and ability to work any recognized shift, including weekends, and attend meetings or training that may occur outside of regular shift hours.
  • Good physical health required for constant mobility, bending, lifting and reaching.
  • Neat and clean appearance

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • Certification in a commercial cleaning program or equivalent level of experience.
  • Supervisory experience or an equivalent level of education.
  • Operational knowledge of computers and computer software including MS Office Suite software, Adobe Software.
  • Expertise in operation and demonstration of commercial cleaning equipment and tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of the chemistry of cleaning including knowledge of materials, methods and equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmentally responsible cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge of university Enterprise software (e.g. FMIS) is an asset.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years' commercial cleaning experience.
  • A minimum of three years supervising a staff of 30 or more people, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • A minimum of five years handling customer service interactions.
  • Class 5 BC Driver License
  • Computer Skills
