Position Summary
The Sr. Supervisor Concessions Retail Operations reports to the Operations Manager, Concessions and Retail Food & Beverage, and is responsible for leading concession operations across Stampede Park venues for year-round events and the activation of the GMC Stadium for 10 days of Stampede. This role oversees a large, diverse workforce of part-time employees, delivering exceptional guest service while ensuring compliance with all food safety, sanitation, alcohol service and operational standards.
The Sr. Supervisor drives operational excellence through high-volume event execution, inventory management, product ordering, cash controls, warehouse coordination, food production oversight, staff development, cost controls and reporting. This role provides leadership and guidance to the concessions leadership team, ensures a safe and inclusive work environment, and collaborates closely with internal partners to deliver a memorable experience at every event.
This position is a hands-on leader with strong decision-making skills, the ability to supervise and coach employees at all levels, and a passion for hospitality. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and a variable schedule aligned to live events is required.
Responsibilities
- Lead part-time concession employees, including hiring support, coaching, mentoring, training performance management and documentation.
- Provide daily leadership to concession supervisors, stand supervisors, cooks, cashiers, support staff and bartenders.
- Develop staffing plans and schedules based on event size, budgetary requirements and expected attendance.
- Promote a positive workplace culture by working side-by-side with staff, providing real-time feedback and reinforcing standards through coaching and repetition.
- Oversee execution of all concession's operations before, during and after events.
- Ensure proper setup of all concession locations and bars, including sanitation standards, opening inventory, product readiness and assignment of staff duties.
- Lead operations across multiple service models, permanent stands, mobile carts/kiosks, in-venue outlets and trade-show concessions.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, speed of service and guest satisfaction at all locations with quality food and beverage options.
- Ensuring high standards for alcohol service are maintained, following all ALGC regulations and Stampede Procedures.
- Act as the primary on-site leader during events, responding to guest feedback and resolving service issues.
- Manage inventory levels, order products for events
- Conduct post-event reporting
- Maintain a safe work environment free from hazards, discrimination or harassment; AGLC and AHS standards, respond to incidents promptly.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience managing concessions, quick-serve or high-volume food & beverage operations, ideally within live event venues.
- Experience working in multi-site or multi-concept food & beverage operations.
- Preferred: Associate's degree or diploma in Culinary Management, Business Management, Hospitality or related field, 5 years of food & beverage leadership experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience supervising and training diverse teams.
- Knowledge of inventory procedures and controls.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office and POS systems, scheduling and inventory management
- Ability to calculate cash reconciliation, inventory counts and sales reporting.
- Strong decision-making skills, and interpersonal communication skills especially under pressure during live events with the flexibility to meet guests and staff needs
- Thorough knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation requirements and responsible alcohol service in Alberta.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays and variable event schedules.
- Responsible alcohol service certification (e.g., ProServe).
