Come Join Us
For over 40 years, C-FER Technologies' unique test capabilities have been used to evaluate and de-risk novel technologies under the most challenging real-world applications. Our work spans a broad range of applied research projects that include full-scale testing under complex conditions, advanced computer simulation and analysis, and on-site field testing and monitoring. We work with energy companies, pipeline transmission companies, and equipment manufacturers to solve problems for the most challenging non-standard engineering applications.
What You'll Do:
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Fluid Systems team which is responsible for applied research and consulting projects related to fluid systems, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. These projects evaluate varied technologies ranging from pumping systems, flow components, electric motors, and pipelines, in conditions spanning sub-zero temperatures to extreme high temperatures with erosive slurry, multiphase, or compressible flows.
Primarily based on-site at C-FER's 200 Karl Clark Road, Edmonton, Alberta facility, the successful candidate will:
Engage with clients to understand technical challenges, identify industry needs, and conceive practical solutions;
Model engineering systems and design unique testing systems;
Prepare test plans and detailed test procedures to evaluate client products and materials;
Analyze fluid systems involving piping networks, pressure drop, phase changes, heat transfer, and process equipment including pumps, valves, and related equipment;
Operate and troubleshoot various test facilities, including pumps, heaters, instrumentation, and control systems;
Work with a team of engineers and technologies to construct, maintain, and modify infrastructure and pressure piping systems;
Analyze experimental data to evaluate trends, anomalies, and predictions;
Prepare high‑quality technical reports and presentations for internal teams and external clients;
Participate in project management activities, including cost estimation, scheduling, coordination, and various client-facing tasks;
Contribute to proposal development, business development, and marketing activities.
Who You Are:
Curious and resourceful, with a demonstrated passion for learning and staying ahead in your field;
Self-motivated and organized with strong time management and attention to detail;
Solution- and detail-oriented, with the ability to be both creative and analytical to solve problems;
An excellent communicator, both verbal and written;
Adept working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; and
A safety leader who is committed to promoting a culture of safety and compliance with organization, regulatory and client-specific health and safety requirements.
What You Bring:
Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable engineering discipline;
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineering (PEng) designation with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA);
Ability to legally work in Canada, and for C-FER Technologies;
Ability to travel and work outside of Canada; and
Ability to work on-site daily (i.e. no remote or hybrid work).
Additionally, you should have:
Two (2) years of relevant industry experience;
A strong foundation in engineering principles with a strong mechanical aptitude, and a "hands-on" approach to learning and task execution;
Background in areas involving fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics;
Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills; and
Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to develop clear, precise, and well-structured engineering reports, design specifications, proposals, and client-facing documentation.
Complementary Experience:
Experience in experimental testing;
Experience in project management, consulting, or client-facing engineering roles;
Proficiency in SolidWorks and mechanical design;
Background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation;
General proficiency in programming or scripting (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, VBA);
Any experience in the energy industry (specifically production operations).
What We Offer You:
C-FER offers a comprehensive benefits package (extended health and dental), company-matched pension, 14 paid Earned Days Off, three weeks' vacation to start, 11 paid STAT holidays, Personal Wellness Spending Account, challenging hands-on work conducted indoors, work/life balance with a Monday-Friday daytime schedule working primarily within the City of Edmonton, as well as an array of professional growth and career advancement opportunities and company sponsored social activities to build rapport with your colleagues.
If you believe you are qualified for this position, please forward your cover letter, resume including example project summaries with metrics and transcripts in one PDF document quoting Competition No to This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is hired.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those chosen for further consideration will be contacted.
