Title: Senior Engineer - Total Fund Management Financing
Duration: 6 months (Contract) + strong potential to extend
Location: Downtown Toronto, ON
Hybrid Work Model: 4 day/week Onsite, Fri WFH
PR: $80-100/hr
Current Challenges
Need someone truly hands-on, production-ready
No bandwidth to train on AWS, EKS, or Terraform — candidate must be strong and ramped-up quickly
Hard to find the right Java + AWS combination
Capital Markets experience is not required, but must be willing to support related work
Top 2-3 Deliverables (First 90 Days)
Build and deploy production-ready Java services within AWS
Stand up or enhance infrastructure using Terraform and EKS
Support active modernization efforts tied to Total Fund Management initiatives
Key Project Work Driving the Urgency
Modernization of public markets technology systems
New cloud service development (primarily AWS)
Migration and infrastructure upgrades involving EKS and Terraform
What They Will Accomplish (High-Level)
Design and maintain scalable, cloud-based applications
Lead or participate in architecture design and system analysis
Contribute to modernization initiatives across public markets
Maintain high-quality, secure, performant code
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Build Java (Core Java, Spring Boot, Microservices) applications
Work heavily within AWS
Deploy and manage infrastructure using Terraform
Work with EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams
Conduct code reviews
Contribute to best practices and continuous improvement
Technical Environment
Java 8 or Java 17
Spring Boot (no strict version requirement)
30% AWS today, though overall organization still ~70% Azure
Terraform deployments
EKS, Lambda, SQS, ArgoCD (nice-to-have)
SQL + Oracle
Some Python (basic scripting level)
Must-Haves
8+ years of experience
Strong hands-on Java (Core Java, Spring Boot, Microservices) — 8/10 minimum
Deep AWS experience, including:
Terraform deployment
EKS
Strong in software design, system analysis, and multithreading
Excellent communication and problem-solving
Nice-to-Haves
Python (3-4/10 expected; just needs willingness to pick up more)
Capital Markets familiarity (bonds, options, futures) — not required
Additional AWS services: Lambda, SQS, ArgoCD
