About Juno Engineering
Juno Engineering is an industrial engineering consulting firm delivering electrical, instrumentation, and controls (EIC) solutions for complex energy and infrastructure facilities across North America.
We support projects across sectors including:
• Power generation (including conventional and low‑carbon facilities)
• Renewable energy & electrification (interconnections, balance-of-plant electrical, site power)
• Utilities & substations (for processing facilities)
• Water & wastewater (treatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance infrastructure)
• Mining & heavy industrial (process facilities and plant upgrades)
• Oil & gas (upstream, midstream, and gas processing)
Our design and deliverables support safe, constructible execution in alignment with project requirements and the Engineer of Record (EOR).
The role
Juno is hiring a Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Design Specialist to produce, coordinate, and quality-check construction-ready E&I drawing deliverables. This role suits a highly experienced E&I technologist who enjoys detailed technical work, strong document discipline, and cross-discipline coordination. You'll work closely with engineers and project teams to ensure drawings are clear, consistent, and ready for construction.
What you'll do
This role follows established project workflows, document control practices, and standard review gates. Drawing quality, constructability, and schedule priorities come first.
Technical Drawing Development & Coordination:
Prepare and coordinate complete E&I drawing packages for each project, including single‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, cable & tray routing plans, grounding & lighting layouts, heat‑trace details, instrument loop diagrams, hookup sheets, junction‑box schedules, control‑panel GAs, and other circuit drawings.
Maintain the drawing index, title‑block metadata, and document‑control register; coordinate revision sequencing with the Document Controller.
Translate redlines, mark‑ups, and design calculations from discipline engineers and the EOR into constructible, code‑compliant drawings.
Participate in multidisciplinary model & drawing reviews (30/60/90% and IFC) with a focus on drawing clarity, clash resolution, and constructability.
Coordinate inputs from process, mechanical, civil/structural, and automation teams to support cohesive E&I drawing sets.
Design Standards & Quality Assurance:
Perform thorough drawing checks prior to Issued‑for‑Review (IFR), Issued‑for‑Approval (IFA), and Issued‑for‑Construction (IFC) submissions.
Verify that drawing deliverables align with EOR requirements, project specifications, and applicable codes/standards (e.g., CEC Part I, CSA standards, ISA symbology, IEC 60079 / applicable hazardous‑area documentation).
Support as‑built drawing updates during construction and turnover, incorporating approved field mark‑ups and redlines.
Interface with Engineering & Construction:
Work closely with project engineers to clarify design assumptions, cable sizing, load lists, and hazardous‑area requirements.
Support construction teams by issuing field clarification sketches as needed and incorporating site mark‑ups into controlled drawings.
Participate in model walk‑downs, verifications, and plant tie‑in surveys to capture existing conditions accurately.
What you bring
Education, Experience & Professional Registration:
Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Technology diploma or other equivalent degree or diploma.
10+ years of industrial E&I design and drafting experience on energy‑sector projects, including senior responsibility for coordinating multi‑discipline drawing deliverables.
Registration in good standing as a C.E.T. (ASET) or P.Tech.(Eng.), P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) in Alberta.
Technical Skills
Deep understanding of CEC Part I, CSA C22.2 standards, ISA instrumentation symbology, and IEC 60079 or API 505 hazardous‑area classification documents.
Proven ability to produce:
Single‑line up to 5 kV & grounding diagrams
Detailed wiring and termination diagrams for MCCs, VFDs, PLC/DCS panels
Instrument loop drawings, hookup sheets, and junction‑box termination plans
3‑D cable‑tray models with clash detection and bill of materials
Electrical trace‑heating circuit layouts, schedules, and isometric drawings
Core competencies
Exceptional attention to detail and zero‑defect mindset.
Clear communication and ability to explain design concepts to junior team members.
Strong organizational skills for simultaneous multi‑project workloads.
Alignment with Juno's values: safety, indigenous inclusion, technical excellence, and environmental responsibility.
Working environment
Calgary‑based hybrid role (minimum 4 days/week in office).
Field/site verification trips up to 10% (occasionally remote, fly‑in/fly‑out).
Compensation & benefits for employees
Competitive salary commensurate with senior technical lead roles.
Retirement savings plan and company deferred profit‑sharing plan.
Comprehensive health & dental.
Paid professional dues, continuing‑education support
Negotiable compressed work schedule.
