Responsibilities
JBH is currently recruiting for a temporary full time Professional Practice Educator to join our Inpatient Surgery & Clinics Team.
Reporting to the Manager, Professional Practice and Director, Surgery, Oncology & Ambulatory Care, the individual in this role will work in partnership and in collaboration with the Surgical Management, Physician, and the Professional Practice Educator teams.
This position provides support for practice and quality initiatives across the nursing and interprofessional practice team in Inpatient Surgery, ambulatory clinics and Oncology by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to enhance clinical competency, quality improvement and team development.
The Professional Practice Educator facilitates and supports continuous learning, professional development, and service excellence through educating, coaching and mentoring staff and clients in addition to facilitating appropriate co-ordination of resources to meet identified clinical needs in alignment with evidence-based practice. The Professional Practice Educator will also contribute to organizational deliverables including new hire onboarding, student coordination and corporate committee membership.
Working in an interprofessional, patient centered environment, the ideal candidate will have effective interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to work collaboratively within and across professions; a strong ability to implement strategies based on best practice standards that effectively facilitate change, and possess a commitment to knowledge transfer strategies to ensure a high degree of safe and competent care delivery. Qualifications
Current CNO Registration (in good standing)
Bachelor degree in Nursing required
Master's Degree in Nursing, Leadership or Health related field (completed or in progress)
A minimum of 5 years' experience in Surgical nursing required
Acute care experience within the last 3 years
Coronary Care 1 required
De Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Administration Course or ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course considered an asset
Experience in assessing learning needs of individual nurses (both existing and new hires) within the unit/program
Experience developing education plans containing goals, objectives, resources and evaluation activities.
Knowledge and experience utilizing adult learning principles for curriculum development and staff education with a proven ability to design, create and deliver programs/educational sessions tailored to diverse audiences
Evidence of strong clinical knowledge, critical thinking and sound decision making
Ability to work autonomously
Knowledge and experience with using and interpreting quality metrics and change management methodologies required
Demonstrated proficiency with knowledge transfer, program development and implementation, project and change management, and evaluation skills relative to clinical practice and the practice of education
Strong knowledge of nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the applicability to the practice setting
Committed to excellence in all elements of professional practice, including excellence in patient care processes, measuring outcomes, collaboration, and professional growth through education and research utilization
Innovative, creative, and professional role model with familiarity providing mentorship and clinical teaching in a healthcare setting
Able to promote practice excellence both internally and externally through research, education, and quality initiatives.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to engage stakeholders effectively
Ability to prioritize/organize multiple projects with strict deadlines demonstrating strong organization, time and change management skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
