The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst I supports the development of data products and Power BI reports. This role is ideal for an early-career professional who demonstrates strong initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. The BI Analyst I will work under the guidance of senior team members to transform data into valuable insights that support business decisions, particularly in insurance, accounting, and finance domains.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Assist in the development and maintenance of Power BI reports and dashboards.
Support creation and refinement of datasets and visualizations for business use.
Learn and apply data modeling and visualization best practices.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into report design.
Support senior BI analysts in documentation and report QA/testing.
Perform basic data exploration and analysis to validate report logic and outputs.
Participate in team meetings and Agile routines to prioritize and track tasks.
Provide support and validation during releases, including assisting in the verification of report functionality and data accuracy after code changes are deployed to production.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field.
Foundational experience (ie. internships, academic projects, and early professional roles) in business intelligence, reporting, or data analysis.
Technical Skills:
Foundational knowledge of - and experience using - Power BI, including DAX, Power Query (M), and report design best practices.
SQL skills for querying and transforming data.
Familiarity with data visualization principles and best practices.
Understanding of data sources, tables, and relationships.
Soft Skills:
Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
Eagerness to learn and proactive in seeking out opportunities for skill development.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and business teams.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an Agile or DevOps environment.
Experience working with insurance or finance-related data.
Understanding of basic data modeling concepts (star schema, data warehouses).
Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or similar tools.
BI certification (e.g., DA-100/PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst Associate) is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Use of office equipment over six (6) hours per day.
Extended periods of sitting and concentration.
Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional long, irregular hours.
Provide after-hours problem resolution when required.
Occasional travel by auto or other public transportation.
Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
