Position Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of estimates and tenders for commercial glazing and related scopes of work. This role provides leadership within the estimating team, acts as a key point of contact for clients during the tender phase, and supports Operations through pricing of changes, extras, and credits. The Senior Estimator plays a critical role in securing profitable work and ensuring smooth project transitions from estimating to execution.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Tendering
  • Attend pre-tender site meetings and review tender documentation to prepare accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Prepare detailed material take-offs and labour estimates for assigned projects.
  • Solicit, analyze, and level supplier and subcontractor pricing.
  • Prepare, submit, and follow up on quotations, bids, and tenders.
  • Review scopes against quotations to identify risk, exclusions, and clarifications.
  • Proactively follow up with clients after quotation and tender submissions to gather feedback on bid status, pricing position, and competitiveness.
  • Obtain insight into where Durabuilt's pricing sits relative to competitors and identify opportunities to improve value or scope alignment.
  • Work with clients to clarify inclusions, exclusions, and alternates to strengthen Durabuilt's position in the award process.
  • Identify and propose value-added options, alternates, or cost-saving solutions to give Durabuilt a competitive advantage.
  • Maintain detailed records of bid feedback and outcomes to support continuous improvement of estimating strategy and pricing accuracy.
  • Prepare documentation for awarded projects and conduct handover to operations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tender information within the Opportunity Tracker / Salesforce system.
Client & Supplier Relations
  • Act as a primary point of contact for customers regarding estimating enquiries.
  • Participate in clarification meetings with clients, consultants, and general contractors.
  • Attend networking events to build and strengthen relationships with customers, suppliers, and industry partners.
  • Maintain awareness of market conditions, pricing trends, and competitor activity.
Operational Support
  • Assist the Operations Team with pricing of change orders, extras, credits, and value-engineering options.
  • Support Project Managers during project start-up and transition from estimating to construction.
  • Provide technical input on glazing systems, materials, and constructability.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate estimators.
  • Assist in reviewing estimates, quotation letters, and tender packages prepared by team members prior to submission.
  • Promote consistent estimating standards, processes, and documentation.
Continuous Improvement & Industry Knowledge
  • Stay current on new materials, glazing systems, and construction techniques.
  • Attend manufacturer seminars, training sessions, and trade shows as required.
  • Assist in estimating Hollow Metal Doors and Pressed Steel Frame scopes when workload permits.

Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience
  • Construction / Civil Technology Diploma, Estimating Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction; glazing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience estimating large-scale commercial glazing projects is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of Hollow Metal Doors and Pressed Steel Frames is an advantage.
Technical Skills
  • Strong blueprint and specification reading skills.
  • Solid understanding of glazing systems, materials, and installation methods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with estimating software and CRM systems considered an asset.

Additional Requirements
  • Occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
