Customs and Border Protection Officer Job Description

The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Customs and Border Protection Officer. As a CBPO, you will play a vital role in ensuring the security of the United States by enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws.

• You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.


• You must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.


• In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection before reaching their 40th birthday unless they are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position or Veterans' Preference eligible.

If you possess one of the following qualifications:

• A minimum of three full-time general work experience that demonstrates your ability to meet and deal with people; OR

Educational Substitution: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
Combination of Experience and Education: Successfully completed college education AND general work experience.
