Part-Time Controller
Introduction
Flexserv is a leading provider of a full range of internal accounting and HR services to small and medium size enterprises – organizations that typically range in size from 5-75 employees. We're looking for a Part-Time Controller with at least 10 years of experience to work for us, providing controllership services to our clients. The number of hours may vary, and this role may become full-time as we continue to grow.
About Us
Our customers look to us to fully manage their bookkeeping, accounting and human resources. This frees up our client's executive and staff to focus on their core strategic activities such as sales and delivery, while we manage their corporate services. Our staff work in a matrixed environment, working on one or more clients, depending on the workload generated by each of our clients. You may be teamed with certain Flexserv specialists for one client and other Flexserv specialists for another. Ultimately, our clients see you and the rest of our team as an integral part of their company on a long-term basis. Most work is completed remotely depending on the client's assignment. Please note that we are not a recruiting agency and we seek ongoing, long-term operational relationships with our clients.
Report to Flexserv and Client Executive
The Controller role will involve the following responsibilities:
· Prepare annual financial business plans and targets, operating and capital budgets and forecasts
· Ensure the account reconciliations, G/L management, monthly accruals, A/R, A/P and related functions, internal expense reporting, fixed asset management, tax filings and corporate tax installments are completed accurately and on time
· Prepare the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow forecasts) and management reporting and analysis to support Executive decision making.
· Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
· Analyze key variances and monitor the progress of action plans to improve results and strategically operate the business
· Manage cash flow and capital spending
· Consolidate reporting for multiple divisions
· Establish and implement financial controls
· Prepare weekly KPI reports and related analysis
· Manage, coach, supervise and train accounting and administrative staff
· Ensure that company policies and procedures are followed by all staff and that all transactions are correctly reflected in the accounts
· Prepare for, and support external audits
Qualifications and Skills
· Member in good standing as a CPA
· University degree
· Cryptocurrency experience is considered an asset
· Xero experience is considered an asset
· Minimum 10 years of accounting experience
· Minimum of 3 years' management or supervisory experience in a related and progressive Finance/Accounting Role
· Solid knowledge and understanding of full cycle accounting, financial statements, budgeting/forecasting, year-end functions
· Strong knowledge of internal controls
·
• Sound knowledge of Canadian tax and experience preparing and filing corporate tax returns
· Proficiency in QuickBooks, Simply Accounting. One or more additional systems (i.e. Great Plains, Jonas, etc.) is considered an asset
· Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
· Excellent judgment, problem solving skills
· Self-starter, team player, organized, able to meet deadlines
· Possess initiative, integrity and a strong work ethic
· Attention to detail, accuracy is important
· Excellent interpersonal skills, flexible
· Professional, self-confident and able to work independently
· Strong customer service skills and a positive, can-do attitude
· Solid verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English
Location
Most of our roles are remote and Flexserv clients are located throughout the Greater Toronto Area. You may require you to be onsite depending of the needs of the client.
