The Opportunity
We're looking for and HR Manager who thrives in a builder environment, resourceful, practical, hands-on, and comfortable creating structure where it doesn't yet exist. Someone who brings vision, structure and grit. This is a builder role – ideal for someone who excels at creating clarity where none exists, designing practical workflows, implementing tools, and equipping leaders with simple, repeatable people practices.
You will build the operating backbone of HR: consistent hiring and onboarding, clear policies, manager-ready performance process, reliable HR administration, and audit-ready compliance. Your work will enable leaders to make better decisions, reduce organizational risk, and create a more consistent employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
HR Systems & Processes
Review current HR practices and build a clear improvement roadmap.
Implement and manage HR systems, workflows, and digital employee files.
Create standardized HR templates and documentation (offer letters, onboarding checklists, policies, discipline forms, etc.).
Policies & Compliance
Maintain and update HR policies and the employee handbook.
Ensure compliance with employment standards and legal requirements.
Maintain organized, audit-ready employee records.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Build a structured hiring process with interview guides, scorecards, and offer standards.
Create a consistent onboarding program day plans).
Improve hiring quality and time-to-fill.
Performance & Manager Support
Develop a clear performance management framework (goals, reviews, feedback).
Provide managers with practical tools for coaching and documentation.
Employee Relations
Manage employee relations cases from intake to resolution.
Advise leaders on sensitive matters with fairness and consistency.
Identify trends and recommend process improvements.
HR Metrics & Reporting
Track and report key HR metrics (turnover, absenteeism, hiring, engagement).
Maintain a simple monthly HR dashboard.
Ensure HR data accuracy.
Payroll Support
Partner with Accounting to support bi-weekly payroll processing.
Ensure HR and payroll data are accurate and aligned.
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive HR experience, including building or improving HR systems, processes, and infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of Ontario employment law and compliance requirements.
Experience developing HR policies, templates, and workflows from the ground up.
Proven ability to support leaders with practical, business-focused HR guidance.
Strong employee relations experience, including investigations and conflict resolution.
High level of judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive matters.
Clear, concise communicator who creates tools managers will actually use.
Data-driven mindset with experience tracking HR metrics and reporting.
Comfortable using AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve documentation and workflow efficiency.
Experience partnering with Payroll and Finance teams is an asset.
