Duties and Responsibilities
  • Test opto-electronic components and sub systems (small signal analysis NVA/LCA, wideband BER, scope, AWG measurements, noise/distortion loading, DWDM testbed)

  • Write component and sub system specifications and review vendor specifications

  • Work with vendors on driving product roadmap and specifications

  • Simulate optical components and systems

  • Design and manufacture quality and reliability tests for optical sub-assemblies

  • Coordinate design with optical, mechanical, digital, firmware and software engineers to reach interface and packaging objectives

  • Perform Design Verification Testing of optical components and modules

  • Perform reliability tests on optical components and modules (e.g. GR-468)

  • Define the production tests to be performed on products at the contract-manufacturer location

  • Provide internal input into NPI, manufacturing, quality, Operations and Sales

  • Identify and mitigate project risks

  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company

Qualifications Basic Qualifications
  • BS or MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics

  • In-depth knowledge of Optical Communications Theory and Digital Communications Theory

  • Able to design and develop optical modules and sub-assemblies

  • Expertise in testing optical modules and sub-assemblies and automation

  • Proficient in writing technical specifications

  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Self-motivated and can perform with minimal supervision

  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job

  • Travel is limited and rare for this position

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledgeable of Ethernet standards is preferred

  • Knowledgeable of optical component reliability and telecom performance standards such as Telcordia, IEC, and ITU
