I am seeking a senior backend architect to:
1. Audit and stabilise the current system
2. Fix any immediate security or scalability risks
3. Design and lead the migration to a fully bespoke, independently hosted platform
This is not a feature development role. This is a platform integrity and architectural ownership engagement.
Current Context
• Multi-tenant B2B SaaS
• Database-backed platform
• Backend APIs
• Background processing
• Early production usage
• Built initially via Lovable for rapid validation
The UI layer is not the primary concern at this stage. The focus is backend integrity, data safety, connection handling, and architectural resilience.
Phase 1 – Stabilisation & Hardening (Immediate Priority)
Objective: Ensure the system is safe and stable while serving existing customers and during planned growth.
Scope includes:
Database & Connections
• Review database schema and indexing strategy
• Assess connection pooling and limits
• Identify slow queries and inefficiencies
• Review transaction handling and concurrency patterns
• Ensure system stability under moderate concurrent usage
Multi-Tenant Isolation
• Validate tenant isolation boundaries
• Review row-level security (if applicable)
• Confirm no cross-tenant data exposure paths
• Review background job privilege levels
Backend & API Review
• Audit API endpoints for exposure risks
• Validate server-side RBAC enforcement
• Review input validation and error handling
• Ensure appropriate rate limiting and abuse protection
Infrastructure & Environment
• Review hosting configuration
• Confirm separation of environments
• Review secrets handling
• Validate backup and recovery process
Deliverables for Phase 1:
• Full audit
• Severity-ranked risk list (Critical / High / Medium / Low)
• Immediate remediation actions
• Implementation of agreed high-priority fixes
• Clear assessment of short-term scalability ceiling (~300 users)
Phase 2 – Bespoke Platform Architecture & Migration
Objective: Design and lead migration away from Lovable into a fully controlled, independently hosted architecture.
Scope includes:
• Define target backend architecture
• Recommend hosting and deployment strategy
• Design data migration plan
• Define tenant isolation strategy
• Recommend connection and scaling approach
• Outline monitoring and observability strategy
• Provide phased rebuild plan
Deliverables:
• Target architecture document
• Migration strategy
• Phased implementation plan
• Estimated timeline and cost
• Execution under agreed engagement
Ideal Candidate Profile
You have:
• Built and scaled multi-tenant B2B SaaS platforms
• Strong PostgreSQL performance tuning experience
• Experience diagnosing connection and concurrency issues
• Led migrations off builder tools or legacy platforms
• Owned backend architecture in production systems
• Experience balancing stability while rebuilding
You think in terms of:
• Failure modes
• Scaling ceilings
• Privilege boundaries
• Operational resilience
• Long-term maintainability
This is not an AI feature role.
This is not a UI role.
This is not a junior optimisation task.
This is a senior-level architectural ownership engagement.
Engagement Structure
Phase 1 will begin as an audit + stabilisation engagement.
If aligned, Phase 2 will transition into architectural design and migration execution.
Please include in your proposal:
1. Examples of multi-tenant SaaS platforms you've stabilised or scaled
2. Your approach to auditing database and tenant isolation risks
3. Experience migrating platforms off builder or low-code environments
4. Your preferred approach to structuring this engagement
Budget will reflect senior-level expertise.
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months. with 30 hours per week.
Mandatory skills: PostgreSQL, Database Architecture, API, Supabase
