Job Summary:
The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for acting as the community liaison between the Africa Centre and the broader African, Caribbean & Black communities. The manager will also be responsible for overall volunteer management and events coordination for the Africa Centre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Engagement
- Strong passion for community, and a visible member of both the Africa Centre and African, Caribbean & Black communities.
- Active participation in major community events including annual cultural festivals and independence celebrations of African and Caribbean countries, as well as black history month and anti-black racism initiatives.
- Demonstrates high communal/political acumen in managing community politics, and Africa Centre's unique position as a politically neutral organization.
- Work with the Communications Manager & Fund Development Manager in advertising and promoting Africa Centre's services and programs at community gatherings and events.
Volunteer Management:
- Serve as the point person for volunteer and membership engagement, management, and communication.
- In collaboration with the communications team, ensure periodic communication with members and volunteers.
- When requested, provide referrals to information, resources, and other capacity-building opportunities for agencies funded through the Africa Centre.
- Responsible all aspects of volunteer management, including recruiting, interviewing, orientation, scheduling, relationship building, problem-solving, and attrition
- Engage skills-based volunteers and leverage their expertise in the development and delivery of capacity-building initiatives.
Events Management:
- Manage, plan, and organize business, and social events that promote identity, social inclusion and sense of belonging.
- In collaboration with partners, spearhead events such as the Africa Day Gala, the All-Africa Soccer tournament, the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Black history month and other partnership events to promote inclusion and strengthen sense of belonging.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Post-secondary degree in a related discipline, or equivalent work-related experience.
- More than 3 years of experience in non-profit or public sector, volunteer management, collaboration and partnership, community engagement and community building, project management, budgeting and program design.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating group processes and fostering community relationships and partnerships.
- Strong problem-solving skills with proven success at identifying, escalating, and resolving issues.
- Ability to influence, negotiate and manage contentious issues to resolution.
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and constituent service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages is an asset.

Requirements
- Bilingual (English and French) – fluent in both written and verbal communication
- 40 hours/week which may involve some weekdays, evenings and /or weekend hours.
- Valid driver's license, and access to a private vehicle.
