Your opportunity
Dillon's Transportation group is seeking a Surveyor to join our Highways & Bridges Practice, with a primary focus on highway transportation infrastructure and associated Transportation Infrastructure / Field Services work. You'll support project delivery across the full project lifecycle – providing high-quality survey data and layout support for design and construction teams, from early planning and functional/preliminary work through detailed design and construction.
This position is available in our Winnipeg or Brandon office, or from a surrounding area (aligned with project and team needs), and includes field work throughout Manitoba.
ResponsibilitiesSurveying & Geospatial Data Collection
- Undertake surveys for geospatial data collection (e.g., topographic surveys, existing conditions, fixed site features, control).
- Perform construction layout and staking services for transportation infrastructure and related works.
- Collect and manage geospatial data using a variety of equipment and methods (e.g., GNSS/GPS, total station, rod and level, and other survey tools as required).
- Support the design team with coordinate systems, control networks, survey adjustments, and the practical application of survey data to design and construction needs.
- Manage import/export of survey datasets and deliver accurate, well-organized files to support design, drafting, and reporting (including CAD-ready deliverables where applicable).
- Contribute to the testing and implementation of new geospatial tools and technologies (including UAV-enabled data capture and/or 3D scanning methods where suitable and available), ensuring accuracy, safety, and project requirements are met.
Project Delivery (Design + Construction Support)
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and technologists to support survey needs through planning, design development, and construction.
- Provide field support that may include construction supervision/inspection support, documentation, and issue tracking as required by the project.
- Support and/or contribute to CAD/drafting workflows (asset) by assisting with surface development, feature coding expectations, and CAD file coordination to ensure survey-to-design alignment.
Quality, Workflow & Equipment Management
- Supervise and maintain the quality of geospatial data collection procedures and support development and implementation of best practices for workflow, quality control, and data management.
- Manage care, calibration, and tracking of survey equipment and related technology.
- Plan and coordinate survey workflow and scheduling across multiple projects; assist with resourcing and prioritization as needed.
- Supervise, monitor, and help develop junior survey and field staff through technical guidance and coaching.
- Liaise with other Dillon offices for survey technical support and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Learning & Development
- Commit to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
- Contribute to the development of junior staff through technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring.
- Contribute to Dillon's profile through participation in professional associations and committees.
- Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology (or related discipline).
- 5+ years of geomatics/survey experience supporting engineering and civil infrastructure projects (e.g., control, civil construction, piping, earthworks/volumes, and/or GIS data collection).
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Construction layout experience including urban and rural roadways, linear infrastructure, bridges/structures, and earthworks.
- Experience with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) and City of Winnipeg roadway infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
- A legal surveyor designation (or path toward it) is an asset.
- Strong proficiency with GNSS/GPS, total station, and rod and level equipment.
- Software experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, and Trimble Business Center is an asset.
- Experience with UAV-enabled data capture and/or 3D laser scanning is considered an asset.
- Design/CAD experience is a definite asset, including producing or coordinating CAD-ready survey deliverables and supporting survey-to-design integration.
