Quality Assurance & Compliance Specialist – Electrical Home Appliances
Location: Guangzhou, China (home-based, with occasional supplier visits)
Employment type: Full-time, direct employment with a UK-based importer/ Retailer.
About Us
We are a UK-based importer of electrical home appliances supplying the UK and EU markets. Our product range includes cookers, kitchen appliances, and HVAC-related products. Product safety, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing quality are critical to our business.
Our management and decision-making teams are based in the UK, and we work closely with our manufacturing partners in China to ensure products meet the required standards before shipment.
The Role
This is a QA and compliance role with a strong focus on detailed technical review rather than factory-line supervision.
A core part of the role is the review of large and highly detailed documentation, particularly pre-shipment inspection (PSI) reports, which can be hundreds of pages long. Accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail are essential, as your decisions will directly affect shipment approval.
You will work closely with a UK-based management team, reviewing findings, explaining risks, and agreeing corrective actions. Strong written and spoken English is therefore a key requirement.
The role is primarily home-based, with occasional visits to supplier factories or inspection locations when required.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out detailed, line-by-line reviews of pre-shipment inspection reports
• Identify non-conformities, inconsistencies, missing evidence, and repeat issues
• Assess inspection results against product specifications, electrical safety requirements, and UK / EU compliance expectations
• Make clear pass or fail recommendations for shipments and explain decisions to UK management
• Create, review, approve, and follow up on corrective and preventive action plans (CAPAs)
• Ensure corrective actions are specific, effective, and properly closed before shipment
• Communicate technical issues clearly with suppliers and third-party inspection companies
• Maintain accurate and traceable QA and compliance records
• Support wider compliance and technical documentation reviews where required
Essential Experience and Skills
This role is suited to someone who is comfortable working with detailed technical information and taking responsibility for quality decisions.
Applicants must have:
• Experience in QA, compliance, or manufacturing within electrical home appliances
• Practical experience with products such as cookers, ovens, hobs, HVAC products, or similar mains-powered appliances
• Experience reviewing pre-shipment inspection reports and managing non-conformities
• A proven ability to review long, complex technical documents accurately and thoroughly
• A methodical and structured working style with strong attention to detail
• Experience creating and managing CAPAs
• The ability to work independently from home and manage priorities effectively
• Strong written and spoken English, sufficient to communicate technical issues clearly with a UK-based management team
Desirable Experience
• Experience working with UK or EU importers
• Familiarity with UKCA / CE marking, LVD, EMC, and relevant appliance safety standards
• Experience working with third-party inspection and testing organisations such as SGS, TÜV, Intertek, or Bureau Veritas
• Technical or engineering background related to electrical appliances
Working Arrangement
• Home-based role
• Regular communication with UK-based management
• Flexible working structure focused on output and accuracy
• Occasional local travel to factories or inspection sites
What We Offer
• Direct employment with a UK importer
• A role where quality decisions genuinely matter
• Competitive salary based on experience
• High level of trust, autonomy, and responsibility
• A stable, long-term position
