THE ROLE
The Legal Assistant supports lawyers across the firm in delivering high-quality legal services.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct legal research to support case strategies
• Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, memos, and correspondence
• Organize and manage case files, ensuring documents are accurately filed and accessible
• Communicate with clients, lawyers, and court officials
• Maintain lawyer calendars, including meetings, court dates, and deadlines
• File legal documents with courts and administrative bodies in compliance with applicable rules
• Prepare trial materials including exhibits and binders
• Manage electronic filing systems and legal databases
• Provide general administrative support including billing and file management
• Conduct conflict checks and maintain strict confidentiality
• Stay informed about relevant changes in laws and court procedures
• Provide backup support to other assistants and contribute positively to team operations
• Perform other duties and projects as required
REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably in litigation
• Strong understanding of legal terminology
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with iManage
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with court registries and filing procedures
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Experience working with Indigenous Nations and their members is preferred
COMPENSATION
The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $85,000.
Compensation within this range will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
