Responsibilities for Library Security Guard
Provide a visible security presence and patrol all floors during operational hours. Control access at library entrances, operate metal detection gates, and welcome visitors. Monitor security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control) and respond to incidents. Collaborate with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to maintain a safe environment. Assist the public with information and directions in a professional manner. Follow opening/closing procedures, including securing doors, elevators, and rooms. Maintain visitor/contractor lists, logs, and reports of unusual occurrences Address incidents, provide first aid, and coordinate with emergency teams Write incident reports and communicate security concerns Answer questions in person or by phone Qualifications for Library Security Guard
Be authorized to work in Canada Hold a valid Manitoba security license First aid certification an asset Exceptional customer service skills Proficient in basic phone & computer skills Strong customer service and communication skills (fluent in English). Skilled in conflict de-escalation, trauma-informed safety, anti-racism, and cultural awareness. Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies. Physically and mentally fit for duties.
