We're hiring a versatile Shop Keeper / Equipment Technician & Fleet Operations Support to manage our shop and yard, handle preventive maintenance and basic repairs on our fleet vehicles, trailers, and small engine gas & diesel equipment, perform pickups/deliveries, and keep everything clean and organized. This is a key hands-on role that keeps downtime low and our team productive—perfect for someone mechanically inclined who enjoys variety and independence.
Key Responsibilities
Shop & Inventory Management
- Receive, inspect, organize, and store tools, materials, parts, and supplies
- Track inventory accurately (manual logs + basic digital tools)
- Issue/return tools and equipment to field teams
- Monitor stock levels, flag reorders, and assist with purchasing
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on pickup trucks, vans, trailers, and small gas and diesel equipment (e.g., skid steers, generators, pumps)
- Check fluids, filters, belts, hoses, tires/tracks, brakes, batteries, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Grease fittings, clean/replace filters, adjust track tension, and handle basic diagnostics/repairs (or coordinate external service when needed)
- Maintain detailed service logs, schedules, and safety compliance records
- Ensure all assets are safe, reliable, and ready for job sites
- Drive company vehicles/trailers for local supplier pickups of materials, parts, and rentals
- Deliver tools, equipment, or skid steers to job sites safely
- Load/unload securely with proper tie-down techniques
- Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and report issues
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized shop, yard, and storage areas
- Sweep, mop, remove debris/waste, and handle disposal/recycling
- Perform seasonal tasks like snow removal and basic grounds maintenance
- Support light general labour as needed
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license (clean abstract preferred; Class 3 or air endorsement an asset)
- 2-5+ Years Experience in construction, fleet/equipment maintenance, shop operations, or similar multi-role positions
- Hands-on mechanical skills with vehicles, trailers, small gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, or skid steers (preventive maintenance and basic repairs)
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in Manitoba weather, bend/kneel/stand for long periods
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
- Basic computer skills (email, simple spreadsheets/logs)
